Controller – $110K–$125K + Premier Union Benefits
Remote (Must Reside Near SE Michigan)
An established health and benefits organization is seeking a Controller to lead critical financial functions and reporting activities for a multientity operation. This is an exceptional opportunity for a detailoriented accounting leader with a background in healthcare or benefits administration and strong technical expertise in Basys software and Advanced Excel skills.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, including footnotes and variance reports
Lead the monthend and yearend close processes
Manage budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc reporting
Oversee payroll operations including payroll tax reporting and compliance (W2s, 1099s)
Maintain accurate fixed asset accounting and investment reconciliations
Support external audit processes and act as the point of contact for auditors
Reconcile GL accounts and manage data interfaces between financial systems and Basys
Key Tools & Systems
Basys – critical to success in this role
Advanced Microsoft Excel
General ledger systems (e.g., Great Plains Dynamics or similar)
Reporting tools such as Insight, Crystal Reports, Access, Power BI
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Director of Financial Services
No direct reports; collaborates with accounting and operations staff
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Accounting required; CPA preferred
10+ years of progressive accounting experience
Strong analytical mindset with attention to audit readiness and compliance
Experience in health plans, benefit administration, or unionbased organizations preferred
High integrity, discretion, and ability to manage confidential data
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 depending on experience
