A DAY IN THE LIFE

The Director of IT Infrastructure is a strategic leadership role responsible for ensuring the organization’s technology environment operates efficiently, securely, and in alignment with business objectives. This individual will lead cross-functional teams focused on IT operations and support, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include developing and executing infrastructure roadmaps that support business growth, emerging technologies, and evolving service needs, while incorporating industry best practices. The role also encompasses budgeting, vendor management, and setting priorities to enhance process maturity and consistently exceed service level targets. The Director will foster strong partnerships across the enterprise, collaborating with global and domestic business teams, security teams and other assurance functions to ensure alignment with technology standards and adoption. Oversight includes the full spectrum of infrastructure services—cloud platforms, engineering, architecture, networks, servers, storage, and databases—as well as the teams and processes that deliver these services. Additionally, this leader will play a pivotal role in major IT projects and strategic initiatives, working closely with the broader IT leadership team to drive innovation and transformation.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of IT Infrastructure will lead a high-performing team responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of Montrose’s technology landscape—from core network architecture to cloud-based environments. This role is instrumental in driving strategic IT initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure modernization, and enterprise-wide transformation efforts. As a key member of the IT leadership team, the Director will play a central role in shaping MEG’s future success by ensuring a resilient, scalable, and forward-looking infrastructure that supports the organization’s growth and innovation goals.

Specific responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise infrastructure, including cloud platforms, network architecture, servers, storage, and databases

  • Oversee day-to-day IT operations team, ensuring high availability, performance, accountability and security across all systems and platforms meeting operational goals

  • Translate business strategy into multi-year infrastructure roadmaps that align with business growth strategy, emerging technologies needs meeting expectations

  • Manage infrastructure-related budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective and high-quality service delivery

  • Drive process maturity and operational excellence by establishing metrics, service level objectives, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Oversee architecture and execution of LAN/WAN, data center, storage (SAN/NAS), and virtualization platforms

  • Partner closely with Information Security, IT Support, and business stakeholders across geographies

  • Manage and optimize cloud-based PaaS platforms, including Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, while overseeing the network infrastructure landscape—such as Fortinet firewalls—to ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing environments

  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of infrastructure systems, configurations, changes, and technical specifications to support operational transparency and continuity

  • Lead infrastructure efforts in M&A activities, including technical due diligence, strategic planning, and seamless post-acquisition integration of systems and networks

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage infrastructure vendors and external partners, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, service-level expectations, and cost-effectiveness

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, assess their relevance to business needs, and spearhead pilot programs or full-scale implementations to drive innovation and efficiency

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and professional growth

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to infrastructure, data protection, and cybersecurity

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations on infrastructure strategy, risk management, and emerging technologies

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • 10+ years of experience in senior IT management positions leading teams in IT infrastructure, with leadership roles in complex environments

  • Demonstrated success delivering infrastructure projects on time and within budget

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence outcomes across technical and non-technical groups

  • Deep understanding of network architecture, cloud infrastructure, virtualization, storage, and security best practices

  • Experience managing IT in rapidly evolving, high-growth companies

  • Strong documentation and operational discipline

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or advanced certifications (A+, Network+, Azure, etc.) preferred

  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on, collaborative leadership style

  • Demonstrated expertise across a broad range of enterprise technologies, including Unix, Microsoft Server, SQL Server, Exchange, Oracle databases, Public Cloud architectures (e.g., Azure, AWS), and network security platforms such as Fortinet

  • Experience developing IT Strategies, Roadmaps and Budgets and executing the same
