Founded in 2007, Initiate Government Solutions (IGS) a Woman Owned Small Business. We are a fully remote IT services provider that delivers innovative Enterprise IT and Health Services solutions across the federal sector. Our focus is on data analytics, health informatics, cloud migration, and the modernization of federal information systems.

IGS is currently pipelining for a remote Sr. Systems Engineer to support our work with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Candidates will be contacted as opportunities for further consideration becomes available.


Assignment of Work and Travel:

This is a remote access assignment. The Candidate will work remotely daily and will remotely access VA systems and therein use approved VA provided communications systems. Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested.


Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):

  • Provides systems engineering expertise to the Community of Practice (CoP), analyzing the technical feasibility and architectural implications of proposed interoperability solutions.
  • Provides technical leadership in defining system-level solutions that meet functional and operational requirements.
  • Conducts detailed operational analysis to inform system design and enhancements.
  • Advises CoP members on the technical aspects and real-world implementation challenges of health IT standards like HL7 FHIR, TEFCA, and USCDI.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on networking and computing infrastructure to help the community understand technical barriers to seamless data exchange.
  • Contributes to all phases of software development, with emphasis on planning, analysis, modeling, simulation, testing, integration, and documentation.
  • Collaborates with software engineers to ensure seamless integration between application layers and infrastructure.
  • Designs, implements, and supports network and computing infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on networking technologies, including LAN/WAN, routing, switching, and network security.
  • Leads integration efforts across subsystems and ensures end-to-end functionality and performance.
  • Develops and executes system-level test plans, scenarios, and validation procedures.
  • Prepares comprehensive technical documentation, system specifications, and design artifacts.
  • Presents system concepts, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders, including engineering teams and senior leadership.
  • Works closely with cross-disciplinary teams (e.g., software developers, network engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and operations personnel).
  • Acts as a liaison between engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentors’ junior engineers and supports knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Provides leadership in solving complex technical issues and making strategic engineering decisions.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance system performance, maintainability, and security.
  • Stays current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in systems engineering.
  • Is willing to support tasks outside of this scope for the betterment of the project. 
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in computer science or a related field
  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience
  • Personnel shall demonstrate proficiency in skills necessary to perform tasks
  • Knowledge of Access, Excel spreadsheets, macros, effective written and oral communication, presentation and facilitation skills at an executive level
  • Knowledge of SharePoint Online, Office 365, Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI at an expert level as deemed necessary by role
  • Passion for developing team-oriented solutions to complex engineering problems 
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies:

  • Active VA Public Trust
  • Prior experience supporting a VA program
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, ITIL® 4 Foundation or Intermediate Certifications
  • Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment

Compensation: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary, including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
