Qualified Bookkeeper / Accounts Assistant for Chartered Accountancy Practice


Salary: Commensurate with experience and level of training/qualification


Full-Time Hours: 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). Alternatively, part-time hours (30 hours per week) can be considered to suit the applicant.

Professional Trust Group is a small but growing firm of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW), Tax & Business Advisors that focus on providing full services to a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses. Clients range in size up to a turnover of £5m.

Whilst we offer everything you would expect from a firm of Chartered Accountants, but we’re a bit different to a lot of typical ‘high street’ firms.

We have grown the practice by becoming key partners with our clients - specializing in providing a fully outsourced financial and accounting solution - saving businesses the costs and hassle of running a finance department whilst being able to trust everything is being handled independently and correctly.

The Role:


You will be responsible for all aspects of bookkeeping for clients to a high-level, including bank reconciliations, preparation of VAT returns, payroll reconciliations, posting journals etc.

You will need to obtain information from different sources, and process the accounting information correctly, such as with banks, merchant services (e.g. PayPal, Stripe), online marketplaces (e.g. Amazon, eBay), invoice finance and factoring providers etc.

You will be client-facing and contact clients directly via email and telephone, whilst also having occasional face-to-face meetings and may attend the occasional client at their premises (although, these days, that is more infrequent!).

You will need to monitor client deadlines, and manage processes, to ensure that deadlines are met.
Person Specification
Ideally, you will be AAT qualified (level 3 or higher), or qualified by suitable experience. You must be experienced in UK bookkeeping and associated taxes (VAT etc).



You will possess the following:

· Confident, with an enthusiastic, proactive, and hands-on attitude to work, with a friendly and positive disposition

· Ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner

· A high level of detail and accuracy

· Excellent written English

· Natural interest for business, finance, and accounting

· Be self-motivated to progress and achieve with your training and skills

· Good timekeeper, with a flexible and committed approach to work



Required Qualifications:

· A minimum of AAT Level 3, or higher. Or Qualified by Experience.



Desired Skills and Experience:

· Accountancy Practice experience.

· Experience of working with incomplete records (and able to identify when items are missing).

· Able to produce excellent bookkeeping records up to trial balance, with the ability to process journals for things such as accruals and prepayments.

· Experience and understanding of VAT calculations, filing returns and the differences between the rates of VAT, with a handle on the MTD rules.



Experience of the following software packages:

- QuickBooks Online - required

- Xero - required

- Sage - preferred

- Freeagent - preferred

- AutoEntry / Dext - preferred

- Microsoft Office, particularly Excel - required


Job Type: Full-time


Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
