The Role
The Care Operations Referral Coordinator works closely with our care teams, patients and their families to ensure access to clinical and non-clinical services identified by our teams. The ideal candidate is excited about the idea of working closely with our provider and payer partners to figure out the best referral options for our patients using our AI-enabled platform. You are motivated by piecing together the puzzle of national and local options in order to meet the needs of patients across the country.
Job Duties – What you’ll be doing
The role will be responsible for timely accurate review of requests/orders, process prior authorizations with various payers, generate orders, and assist patients with scheduling
To include DME supplies and medications when applicable
Ensures that documentation is detailed and recorded in the patients medical record
The Referral Coordinator plays a crucial role in facilitating communication between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to optimize patient care and ensure seamless transitions between healthcare services
Communicate referral status updates to patients, healthcare providers, and other involved parties
Obtain prior authorizations for services ordered such as CTs, MRIs, and other diagnostic imaging
Schedule appointments for patients once authorization for services is confirmed
Acts as liaison between patients, healthcare providers, infusion centers, pharmacy, and billing department to address issues
This position requires clinical knowledge in addition to technical skills to provide clinical support through the referral process
Coordinate scheduling of appointments as necessary.
Request and obtain medical records from health plans and external providers and organizations per protocol
Fulfill other duties to support member care and operations as assigned
Requirements – What we look for in you
3+ years experience working as a patient navigator, prior authorization specialist, imaging coordinator, Medical Assistant or referral coordinator; preferred experience in a neurology, radiology, or infusion setting preferred
Medical Assistant experience preferred
Effective communication skills with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare personnel
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties
Strong understanding of insurance policies, procedures, and medical terminology
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex medical and insurance information in an empathetic, patient-friendly manner.
Passion for patient advocacy with a problem-solving mindset, focusing on overcoming challenges to accessing care.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, health systems, independent providers, and insurers.
