Job description

The Company:
With deep expertise in chemistry, Nuvalent is working to create selective medicines designed with the goal to address the needs of patients with cancer.  Nuvalent is an exciting early-stage company, bringing together experienced scientists and industry veterans with a proven track record in drug discovery, oncology drug development, and company building. 

The Role:

Reporting to the Counsel, Contracts, the Senior Manager, Contracts is hands-on and collaborative with experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry and thrives in a high-science, rapidly-growing, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.  The Senior Contracts Manager will draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts while providing a high level of client service to our internal business partners and external parties.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, negotiate, review, and support various types of agreements typical of the biopharmaceutical industry, including but not limited to preclinical and clinical supply agreements, software-as-a-service (SaaS) agreements, commercial and market access agreements, quality agreements, consulting agreements, master service agreements, confidential disclosure agreements, etc. 
  • Serve as an internal resource for contract-related questions, requests, and other matters, working closely with other members of the in-house legal team, as warranted 
  • Independently coordinate requests from internal clients for various contracts and contract amendments with outside vendors and collaborators 
  • Help maintain and manage the contracts management system, and assist in managing the inflow and outflow of Nuvalent contracts, tracking and reporting contract status for internal sponsors, and ensuring compliance with contract procedures  
  • Partner with the in-house legal team to help create new and update existing contract templates, and develop and implement new policies and procedures to improve efficiency  
  • Establish and foster strong collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and service providers 
  • Provide education and training to internal clients  
  • Assist on special projects, as needed

Qualifications:

  • BA with 7+ years of experience or JD with 5+ years of experience in contracts management and negotiation 
  • Experience independently drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and responding to comments on contracts typical of a biopharmaceutical company 
  • Prior in-house contract-related experience in the life sciences industry strongly preferred  
  • Ability to identify potential risk areas within contract drafts and proactively engage with other members of the in-house legal team to seek resolution where appropriate  
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently 
  • Excellent customer service skills and communication skills 
  • Ability to meet deadlines – timely follow-up and follow-through 
  • Ability to take on several projects simultaneously 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, and experience managing a contracts management system (CMS) is a plus
