Job description

Summary:
GCP Balance is a practical nonfiction imprint built with the whole person in mind. Our 
mission is to inspire and empower readers to be their best selves physically and mentally, 
at home, at their desks, and out in the world. The Editorial Assistant will provide vital 
administrative and editorial support to the Editorial Director (Remote) and Executive 
Editor (New York).


Responsibilities:
• Assist the Editorial Director and Executive Editor in scheduling, meeting planning, 
and general administrative support.
• Enter and track data in the title management database, ensuring the flow of 
approvals for deal memos, contracts, payments, etc.
• Draft catalog, jacket, and promotional copy and prepare fact sheets.
• Manage endorsement outreach and mailings
• Read, evaluate, and report on manuscripts, proposals and other materials submitted 
for consideration for publication.
• Communicate with authors and agents about queries, payments, sales information, 
etc.
• Traffic editorial projects through Art, Production, Copyediting, and Marketing, and 
secure appropriate approvals.
• Prepare pre-acquisition materials, including profit-and-loss statements.
• Prepare deal memos
• Draft rejection letters for proposals submitted for consideration
• Submit monthly expense reports and reimbursements using Concur.
• Take and distribute meeting minutes for meetings as needed.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 
• Previous administrative experience and/or experience in editorial preferred 
• Demonstrated interest in book publishing, especially practical, prescriptive non-fiction
• Detail oriented and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Experience with databases as well as Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

The compensation for this position is $50,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills and experience— talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects. This role is hybrid work from home two days, and three days in NYC office.
