Position Overview
The Digital Content Manager will collaborate with the Director of Communications, our team of scientists, engineers, and data analysts to craft compelling, accessible, and impactful content that communicates our research and mission to diverse audiences, including policymakers, media, and communities. We are seeking a creative, adaptable, and proactive candidate who excels in content creation and storytelling, with a passion for making complex scientific information accessible and engaging. While expertise in all areas is not expected, candidates should demonstrate strength in several key responsibilities and a willingness to grow in others. Success in this role means crafting compelling stories that clearly communicate PSE’s research and its potential to inform meaningful impact, as evidenced by increased audience engagement, policy influence, and visibility of our work.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality, audience-specific content, including website copy, blog posts, social media posts, newsletters, policy briefs, presentations, and multimedia assets (e.g., videos, infographics), ensuring alignment with the Director’s strategic vision and PSE’s brand voice, style guidelines, and mission.
- Collaborate with the Director of Communications and Director of Development to implement a content strategy that supports fundraising, research impact, and community-building through consistent, mission-driven content, including campaigns and rapid-response communications addressing climate, energy, or public health policy issues.
- Translate complex scientific research and technical data into clear, accessible, and compelling content for non-technical audiences to support PSE’s policy and impact goals.
- Ensure all content adheres to PSE’s brand voice, style guidelines, and mission, submitting materials to the Director for review and approval to maintain consistency and quality.
- Track and report content performance using tools like Google Analytics and social media analytics, providing regular updates to the Director to support quarterly and annual communications goals.
- Manage PSE’s social media presence and content distribution across online channels, creating engaging posts, monitoring engagement, and fostering community interaction through webinars or forums.
- Partner with program staff to identify key research findings and stories, ensuring content and visual assets (e.g., data visualizations, graphics, video, etc.) accurately reflect scientific insights and align with messaging goals, in coordination with the Director of Communications.
- Organize and maintain a digital asset library, including tagging and categorizing multimedia files (e.g., videos, photography, etc.) for easy team access.
- Develop and maintain a content calendar to ensure timely content delivery, coordinating with the Director and other departmental leaders to prioritize projects and meet deadlines.
- Manage multiple content projects simultaneously, ensuring high attention to detail and compliance with legal requirements (e.g., copyright, data protection, etc.).
Qualifications
- Passion for and commitment to advancing the mission and values of PSE.
- 3-5 years of experience in content creation, science communication, public relations, or a related field.
- Experience in a nonprofit, energy, climate, or public policy sector setting is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, environmental science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to engage diverse internal teams and external stakeholders at various levels from analysts to executives.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with mastery in APA style, enabling the creation of clear, concise, and engaging content tailored to diverse audiences.
- Ability to pivot seamlessly from analytical, data-driven thinking to creative storytelling, translating complex scientific or technical information into accessible content for various audiences while maintaining accuracy.
- Proficiency in content management systems (e.g., WordPress), Google Analytics, and social media platforms. Familiarity with SEO best practices is a plus.
- Proven ability to shoot, edit, and manage video, photography, and digital assets, with experience in video editing software tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) and managing media libraries.
- Experience with data visualization or graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, driving trust and effective execution of content strategies.
- Familiarity with climate, energy, and public health policy is highly desired but not required.
- Openness to feedback, willingness to learn new skills, and adaptability to rapidly changing environmental, public policy, or social media trends.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. (Range: $75,000 - $93,000K per year)
