Job Description
The Database Team in Infrastructure and Operations, a division of Penn State IT, is looking for a customer and service-oriented Microsoft SQL Server database administrator. The successful candidate will provide support for Penn State's enterprise databases. The candidate must ensure proper use and administration of database and related software on various platforms and maintain optimum software performance and security via database management system configuration and testing of software patches. Database administrator duties include routine backup and recovery of databases, database administration, disaster recovery planning, data replication, physical database design, performance monitoring and tuning, administrative programming and scripting, and efficient T-SQL coding. This job must guarantee system availability and reliability and provide support to developers in the use of database and related software. The individual will participate in the evaluation and testing of new database products and be able to provide on-call support on a rotating basis. This job will be filled as a Senior Professional, typically requiring a bachelor's degree or higher plus six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This can be a teleworking role that can be performed from any non-restricted state (list available at Notice to Out of State Applicants | Human Resources) within the USA, with reliable internet access and availability during core working hours in the Eastern time zone. Experience as a production SQL Server DBA is required, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also necessary. Experience with SSIS, AlwaysOn, PowerShell, and Azure Cloud is a plus.
