We are seeking a highly analytical and mission-driven Data Scientist for a contract position developing and enhancing forecasting models to support the needs of Olivine’s electric utility clients. This position is ideal for someone with strong expertise in predictive modeling, a deep understanding of time-series analysis, and a passion for applying data science in the energy sector. We are seeking only direct contracting with USA-based candidates at this time. This is a remote role. What you bring ● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field. ● 3–6+ years of relevant professional experience in a data scientist or analytics role; energy industry experience strongly preferred. ● Knowledge of regressions models and performance metrics (like R2, MSE, RMSE, and MAPE) ● Proficiency in Python and SQL ● Demonstrated experience with machine learning and data science libraries (e.g., scikit- learn, matplotlib, Statsmodels, TensorFlow). ● Demonstrated experience with building reliable up-to-date predictive models used to drive business decisions (preferably in forecasting applications) by managing numerous datasets. ● Ability to interpret complex data and build compelling visualizations to tell a story and present insights. ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ● Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure) is a plus. ● Familiarity with energy markets, demand response, or grid optimization is a significant advantage. What you will do You will support internal teams developing models to provide actionable forecasts in service of Olivine’s implementation of Demand Response (DR) and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) programs. ● Develop forecasting models to predict key factors supporting our utility programs ● Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights in support of energy and climate-focused programs. ● Design, build, and validate predictive models and/or machine learning algorithms to support operational forecasting and optimization. ● Collaborate with technical staff, program managers, and external partners to translate business needs into analytical solutions. ● Support the implementation of data pipelines to automate and integrate forecasts within our software. ● Provide technical expertise in data management, feature engineering, model development, and performance evaluation.
