What’s the job?

The Library Technician – Learning & Teaching supports the Head Librarian for Learning & Teaching in identifying, curating, and managing learning and reading resources. This role focuses primarily on assisting in the selection of suitable academic materials for inclusion in subject development as part of the curriculum review and development process at Torrens University Australia.

Day-to-day accountabilities: 

  • Collaborate closely with the Head Librarian to identify and evaluate reading and learning materials aligned with curriculum requirements and subject learning outcomes. 

  • Conduct targeted searches to identify relevant academic resources, including textbooks, scholarly articles, multimedia resources, and open educational resources. 

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of resources considered and selected with emphasis on materials within the University’s collection. 

  • Assist in updating resource lists and ensuring accessibility and availability for students and staff. 

  • Provide feedback and recommendations on resource relevance, quality, and applicability including justification for materials to be added to the University’s collection. 

  • Support subject review and development by facilitating access to resources and meeting deadlines for the Product Innovation cycle.

This is a remote role with a recurring work cycle aligned to the academic trimester. During weeks 2 to 8 of each semester , the role typically involves working 4 to 5 days per week. Outside of this period, the workload reduces to approximately 2 to 3 days per week. This cycle will repeat on an ongoing basis for each trimester.

Who you are 

  • Working towards or A Diploma of Library Information Services or equivalent and/or relevant library work experience. 

  • Relevant experience in academic libraries or resource curation preferred. 

  • Proficient in digital technologies relevant to academic library resources 

  • Experience in resource curation for health and nursing would be very desirable but not essential. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, including experience collaborating via Teams. 

  • Strong information searching and resource evaluation skills. 

  • Effective organisational and documentation abilities. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
