Junior Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION

VAS-X is looking to recruit a Junior Developer to service our telecommunications clients.

You will be required to work across a broad range of development activities and across several disciplines, focused on front- end web applications, backend database applications and REST web services. From day to day, you will be involved in design and development of new features for the web applications, testing and execution of bug fixes, or investigation into prospective changes and how they might be integrated into the user interfaces alongside our existing applications.

Duties will also include development and maintenance of new and existing web applications,creation of technical documentation and dealing with technical support requests. This role would suit a recent graduate with knowledge in Java/SQL and an understanding of current web technologies,and who may also have an interest in learning Go.

Due to the business-critical nature, you may occasionally be required to work outside of regular working hours.

ABOUT YOU

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience with Java and Springboot or Oracle PL/SQL and Oracle Apex
• Knowledge of MSSQL/Oracle/MySQL/Postgres databases and SQL
• Familiarity with REST/SOAP APIs.
• Basic understanding of Bash/Linux.
• Proficiency with Git for version control.
• Experience with tools like Postman for testing APIs.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities with an analytical and detail-oriented mindset.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A passion for technology and a constant desire to learn and upskill.

Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

• Work closely with the development team to create, build, and uphold dependable and effective code, utilizing the appropriate Java framework or Oracle PL/SQL and Apex as per the solution requirements.
• Understand and translate business requirements into data models and structures using MSSQL/Oracle/MySQL/Postgres databases.
• Write complex and optimized SQL queries to support application data needs
• Working on the deployment, installation and configuration of software releases.
• Use Git for effective version control and collaborative coding.
• Troubleshoot and debug software applications, resolving any issues that may arise.
• Provide assistance with technical support requests.
• Support software solutions post-implementation, addressing and fixing any bugs or issues that may occur.
• Document all software solutions, ensuring a comprehensive record of all systems and applications.
• Participate in quality reviews and undertake testing as needed or directed.
• Facilitate UAT sessions with the customer.
• Conduct testing using tools like Postman to ensure application functionality and performance.
• Utilize Bash/Linux for various tasks including script writing, system administration, and server management.
• Actively seek to learn and upskill, keeping up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies.
• Attend conferences and workshops as required.
• Participate in cross-service activities and projects as required.
