Job description

Position Overview:

The Director of Global Production Platform, reporting to the Vice President of Translation & Filing Services, ensures that the company has bestinclass platforms (workflow, workbenches, MT solutions, etc.) to support Translation and Filing production teams, creating an optimal client experience that results in strong client retention, employee satisfaction and improving gross profit.



Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads the Global Production Platform team performing or delegating the following functions:
  • Develop and implement platform strategies consistent with the company vision
  • Outline platform features, functions, and new offerings by creating product roadmaps through gathering the VOC (“voice of customer”) from internal and external customers
  • Collect and analyze feedback from customers to shape requirements, features, and end products
  • Represent production and client stakeholders in development meetings helping to set priorities that best serve stakeholders prioritized by client experience, cost effectiveness and employee experience
  • Works with internal development product owners on the points above. Acts as the key production team member interfacing with product owners
  • Takes the lead in technology deployment within Production. Determines deployment plans and schedules.
  • Monitors platform usage, analyzing trends and addressing needs as they arise
  • Manages the platform trouble tickets, working with development to address issues
  • Works with Production management to ensure team members are trained and using the platform effectively and efficiently
  • Research, analyze and propose technology solutions that keep Questel on the leading edge of technology usage, focusing on continual quality and margin improvement
  • Advise partners across the organization on best practices and think critically to provide technologyaided solutions
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, including assisting recruiting efforts and providing career development planning and opportunities
  • Conduct performance review evaluations for direct reports
  • Communicate organization information through department meetings, oneonone meetings, and appropriate email, IM (Instant Messaging), and regular interpersonal communication
  • Work on special projects and other duties as assigned by management

      Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Professional translation experience or other similar language industry experience preferred. In addition, any combination of education, experience and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

      • Minimum of 3 years of responsible leadership experience in management or supervisory positions
      • Minimum 5 years’ specific to language services with progressively increasing responsibility in respective field
      • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working operationally with CAT tool(s), or proven ability to work in a CAT tool
      • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with machine translation engines, including ability to evaluate effectiveness and deploy as part of the global platform
      • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working alongside development and product management to define, develop and deploy internal technology solutions
      • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an admin role for a project management system, ideally a translation management system
      • Proficiency in business intelligence (BI) reporting and usage
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
      • Proven work experience in product management
      • Proven track record of managing all aspects of a successful product through its lifecycle
      • Proven ability to develop product strategies and effectively communicate recommendations to executive management
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills, using professional tone and language; tactful and diplomatic with a clear, straightforward, courteous, and cooperative manner when dealing with others
      • Detailoriented, organized, thorough, and accurate, with the ability to work quickly and steadily in a focused manner
      • Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays, interruptions, and unexpected events
      • Possesses initiative, persistence, ability to problem solve, and enthusiasm for learning
      • Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently with minimal supervision
      • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decisionmaking abilities
      • Skilled at working effectively with crossfunctional teams
      • Willingness to participate in a culture of responsiveness to strengthen relationships and ensure the needs and time of others are met and respected
      • Fluent in English
      • Fluency in a second language, other than English, a plus

          Supervision is provided by the VP of Translation & Filing Services
