Job description

We are a dynamic video game startup based in Cambridge, UK, dedicated to creating immersive and innovative gaming experiences. We are seeking a talented Senior Technical Artist to join our team and help us develop and maintain our cutting-edge game technologies and systems.

As a dedicated Senior Technical Artist you will collaborate closely with the art, design, and engineering teams to develop and implement sophisticated materials, pipelines and visual effects, primarily using UE5, to support the creation of high-quality game worlds.

Whilst we believe in-person collaboration is important and to be encouraged, this can be a remote role for the ideal candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Author procedural art workflows that empower our art team to do amazing things
  • Create and iterate on complex, well-optimised materials and shaders for high value game characters, props, and environments.
  • Build sophisticated real-time visual effects with our art team by leveraging the latest approaches to performant realtime simulations for high-framerate games
  • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to art asset creation and rendering optimization.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in art and technology, and proactively identify opportunities for improving the visual quality and performance of our games.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in the video game industry.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard game art tools (Houdini, Substance, Blender, Maya)
  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine and the art creation process, including modelling, texturing, lighting, and particle systems.
  • Some proficiency programming in C++.
  • Proficiency in shader/material development.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently on assigned tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members.
