Job description

In partnership with Student Financial Services Community Investment Collaborative (CIC) from Southern Virginia is recruiting an undergraduate UVA student who is currently receiving federal work study funding, to work virtually from the CIC office located at 300 Preston Avenue Suite 206 in Charlottesville Virginia.

The Community Investment Collaborative (CIC) is a nonprofit organization that specializes in micro-enterprise development and offers micro-financing and

business training to small and micro-enterprises in Central and Southern VA, and the surrounding counties. CIC's mission is to strengthen the community and contribute to economic development by fueling the success of under-resourced entrepreneurs through education, microlending, mentoring, and networking. CIC leverages community resources to provide capital and education to entrepreneurs who have difficulty accessing funding from traditional sources and who seek an educational support system that is relevant to their business needs. CIC accomplishes this by providing loans and advisory support to existing and aspiring entrepreneurs in the forms of business training, one-on-one mentoring, and networking events. The 16-week Entrepreneur Workshop is one of CIC’s signature programs and allows entrepreneurs to learn the fundamentals of launching and running a business. By supporting small business growth and expansion, CIC helps to create jobs and strengthen the local economy and community.

Overview of Opportunity : CIC is looking for a student to join its Southern VA team in the role of Programs and Impact Specialist . Working at CIC is a unique opportunity to be fully involved in a diverse organization and the chosen applicant will have a meaningful impact in the development of a local community organization that supports small businesses.

The Programs and Impact Specialist t will be offered a variety of experiences, including but not limited to the following:

● Assist in community networking and outreach efforts

● Provide technological assistance for entrepreneurs, volunteers, and staff

● Assist with programs and special projects

● Interface with clients virtually, via email, and on the phone, as needed

●    Support social media, digital content creation, and outreach efforts to promote CIC programs.
●    Help coordinate volunteer involvement and maintain communication and tracking systems.
●    Contribute to data organization, administrative tasks, and tools that support CIC’s lending 
and program impact.
●    Assist with the general operations of the organization

In addition to these primary tasks, you can expect to be part of other projects and tasks as requested.
Professional Development: The Programs and Impact Specialist will experience the organic process of entrepreneurship not only through assigned projects but also through the stories and daily realities of CIC clients as they launch and grow their businesses. CIC maintains intimate relationships with its entrepreneurs in order to ensure full and ongoing support. Students will hone their

communication skills through CIC's education programs and stakeholder

engagement, expand their knowledge of business through the loan program and through the interaction with clients applying for financing.

Qualifications:

● Curiosity/interest in learning

● Interest in small business and entrepreneurship and community development ● Interest in working with others and teams

● Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment

● Strong communication skills

● Strong technology skills (G Suite, Microsoft Office)

● Interest in helping individuals from low-income backgrounds

● Strong writing skills

● Ability to manage multiple projects at one time

● Preferred: Experience in working with business financial statements

Compensation: This role pays $15.00 dollars per hour for a maximum of 10 hours per week.

Schedule: The Programs and Impact Specialist will collaborate with the Operations Coordinator and the SOVA Entrepreneurial Impact Manager to

establish a mutually agreeable, required, and consistent schedule of 10hrs/wk. While the internship is 100% virtual , interns are expected to be responsive, meet deadlines, and attend occasional virtual check-ins or team meetings. We understand that classes are a priority and will work with the student to build a flexible schedule that supports their academic commitments. Our Charlottesville office is located at 300 Preston Ave. Suite 206, Charlottesville VA.(alternative work location) Our Southern VA office is located at 715 Wilborn Ave. South Boston, VA 24592.
