AINA is onboarding a new Marine underwriting product to its diverse list of product offerings; this role is a key player in enabling the new product to be successfully operationalized and enabling its business for digital transformation.

The AVP, Business Solutions, Marine and Property supports various business units (BUs) by optimizing operations and technology across the customer and employee journey. This role will partner with the underwriting Business Unit and VP as a product owner for improvement and transformation initiatives specific to these BUs, and partners with enterprise Business Solutions Leads to incorporate enterprise technology initiatives into BU-specific workflows and systems. This role is a critical partner to act as the central point for people, process, technology and data to support their business units on enterprise-wide business objectives.

This role is part of Operations team, reporting into the VP, Strategic Operations Manager and partnering across the other three Operations verticals: Strategic Portfolio Management, Process Excellence, and Underwriting Operations as well as other functional areas such as Strategic Analytics (SA), Finance, Actuarial and Claims to deliver the entire Operations value proposition to both the Property and newly-formed Marine business units.

Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Partner with BU leader(s) to understand strategic priorities and identify operational support needs to execute on those priorities
  • Drive championing North Star vision and strategic initiatives and lead business-unit adoption across people, process, technology and data
  • Partner on the identification of Operational and Technology initiatives required to improve employee and customer journeys
  • Partner with the VP and the sub-business units, IT and UW leaders to define the short- and long-term Ops and Tech roadmap
  • Partner with strategic analytics to identify areas of opportunity to embed into Operations workflows
  • Lead the Casualty sub-business units to help drive initiative prioritization by providing BU-perspective
  • Partner with the BU to identify market insights on leading practices to inform business priorities

Execution

  • Serve as primary liaison between UW and IT and drive value creation from IT investment
  • Support the establishment of OKRs for the BU
  • Own the prioritization of sub-BU roadmaps as part of the larger Marine and Property domain roadmaps
  • Effectively convey vision, refine user stories and approve business capabilities
  • Partner on the coordination of UAT and participate in sign-off on releases
  • Partner on cross-functional solution design and problem-solving across IT, Data, SA, and other functions
  • Partner to optimize employee and customer workflows using technology and analytics in collaboration with Process Excellence, IT and SA and other enabling functions as needed
  • Partner to drive improvement in the CX/EX journeys; provide input to UI/UX
  • Act and support change management for designated business units through a cohesive communication and training strategy

Triangulation CoE

  • Participate in the development of the Triangulation COE muscle and position the CoE to act as the central point for people, process, tech and data to support enterprise-wide business objectives.
  • Partner in cross-functional problem-solving across IT, Data, Strategic Analytics, and other functions

Requirements

  • Experience with Marine underwriting, operations, and product offerings
  • Experience with medium- to large-scale technology transformation projects and demonstrated value creation
  • Excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to influence and present complex information to varying stakeholder groups
  • Effective communication of BU strategy and operational plan to stakeholders and operational enablers across the org
  • Ability to convey complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to discern operational and tech implications of strategic business plans
  • Ability to partner with underwriting, technology and analytics to deliver solutions that meet customer & business needs
  • Experience documenting strategic requirements and identifying opportunities to improve customer and employee journeys
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills, Communication, Technical, Problem Solving and Service Skills
  • Self-starter demonstrating flexibility, accountability, and adaptability
  • Familiarity with Process Mapping, Lean Process Improvement principles, Agile frameworks
  • Experience partnering with IT development teams in Agile delivery & execution through software development lifecycle, Product Management and Agile/Scrum framework
  • Deep understanding of insurance product lifecycle
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner, preferred

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 5-10 years prior experience in Insurance Underwriting or Operations or Product Owner roles supporting underwriting, at least 3 years supporting Marine (Ocean and/or Inland) Insurance experience a plus

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$107,900 - $155,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
