We are looking for a Quality Supervisor to join our Scotts Miracle-Gro Quality team in Fort Madison, IA.

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the quality assurance activities of the Fort Madison, IA Facility Quality Assurance Lab.  Ensure that the products produced and distributed meet Corporate, customer, consumer, and regulatory requirements.  This includes achieving safety, quality and productivity  objectives.  Assist with supervision and activities of Fort Madison Quality Control. The Quality Supervisor has 3-shift operation responsibility.


What you’ll do in this role:


-Develop, implement and manage data based procedures and decision-making, to ensure operations are in compliance with Corporate Quality Manufacturing Inspection procedures, as well as State/Federal Regulatory compliance.
-Establishing sustainable manufacturing based quality systems that incorporate data analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes at the operator level. 
-Manage and develop technically competent staff. Conduct/document ongoing appropriate & timely performance feedback, to include annual Performance Appraisals for direct reports (5 Lab Analyst Technicians). 
-Manage quality related interactions, including raw materials, with suppliers & tollers, under the guidance of Corporate Quality. 
-Disposition product and approve process changes per Management of Change guidelines. 
-Identify, design, and implement innovative continuous improvement initiatives to drive improvement in plant production efficiencies.
-Assist in the completion of new formula trials. 

What you’ll need to be successful:

-Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related sciences.
-At least 3 years experience in laboratory analytical services/management; analytical chemistry.
-Must possess a sound working knowledge of analytical chemistry, process chemistry, laboratory instrumentation, computer automation, laboratory safety, document management, and manufacturing quality management practices. 
-Demonstrated people management skills. 
-Strong knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes (e.g. acid/base chemistry, blending, etc.). 
-Strong knowledge of analytical techniques (e.g. HPLC, GC, atomic absorption spectrometry, ICP,  FTIR, UV/VIS spectroscopy, viscometry, and bench top techniques). 
-Proven risk-based decision-making ability. 
-Ability to assemble, interpret, and explain analytical and chemical information to non-technical personnel through both written and verbal communication. 
-Working knowledge of various software programs including Microsoft Office (particularly Excel VBA) and analytical/ chromatography data systems. 
-Effective oral and written communications. 
-Knowledge and expertise in quality management and operation excellence. 
-Recognized technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in the following areas:
-Self-motivated, results-oriented and ability to build productive relationships.
-Ability to work in an ambiguous and fast paced environment.
-Theory/functionality of manufacturing systems and unit operations.
-Statistics and analytical methods, Process measurement and control.
-Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communications, organization, resource management, and technology utilization skills
-Proven ability to handle changing priorities while maintaining a sense of urgency
-Strong business acumen, with a solid record of leading change and delivering results 


 

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $87,600.00 - $103,100.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
