Job Description:

   

A Libfabric Engineer role involves working with OpenFabrics Interfaces (OFI) and the libfabric library, which aims to provide a high-performance communication layer for applications in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI/ML environments.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize fabric communication services software in C: This involves writing efficient and optimized C code to achieve high performance and a low memory footprint.

  • Analyze problems and implement solutions based on customer and internal requirements, including understanding and addressing issues related to fabric communication performance and stability.

  • Coordinate with vendors and support teams to resolve problems, address design issues, and implement upgrades. Effectively communicate and collaborate with other teams to ensure smooth operation and ongoing improvements.

  • Create and maintain documentation for host software installations, changes, and upgrades: This ensures proper understanding and use of the software by others.

  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to co-design next-generation hardware given software requirements: Working closely with hardware teams to optimize future hardware for libfabric's needs.

  • Evaluate system architecture and make recommendations as required: Analyze and propose improvements to the overall system architecture.

  • Develop and implement standard processes for the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of host software applications, ensuring consistent and efficient management of the software.

  • Review other team members' pull requests to collaborate on maintaining code quality and adhering to best practices. 

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Deep experience writing optimized C code for fabrics, networks, or systems programming in Linux: Focus on high performance, efficiency, and low memory usage.

  • Strong understanding of software development tools and toolchains, including GCC, Clang, git, and bug tracking software.

  • Proficiency in software performance analysis and tuning: Experience with relevant tools and techniques to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols: Understanding the intricacies of network communication for effective fabric design and optimization.

  • Experience in High Performance Computing (HPC) environments (preferred): Knowledge of HPC-specific challenges and solutions.

  • Ability to analyze software scalability issues in multi-node environments: Expertise in diagnosing and addressing scalability limitations.

  • Experience developing and supporting open-source projects: Comfort working in a collaborative, open-source development model.

  • Experience using hardware performance counters for code tuning: Utilizing hardware-level insights to optimize performance further.

  • Familiarity with Agile development frameworks (e.g., Scrum) (preferred): Knowledge of Agile methodologies for efficient project execution.

USD Annual Salary: $108,500.00 - $206,500.00
