Learning Assessment Specialist

 

The Learning Assessment Specialist  is an important position within the Assessment Office. The Assessment Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing assessment methods to evaluate student learning outcomes, co-curricular offerings, and academic initiatives. This role works cross-functionally with faculty, program chairs, and institutional leaders to ensure the integrity, validity, and continuous improvement of assessment methods used to measure student learning outcomes and evaluate  program effectiveness.

The Assessment Specialist reports to and assists the Sr. Director of Academic Initiatives and IE to align assessment strategies with the university’s strategic goals, enhance continuous quality improvement culture, and prepare accreditation reports and documentations. 


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


Learning Assessment Analysis

  • Independently perform data collection and analysis to identify trends, areas for improvement, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Follow through each step of the learning assessment cycle to document assessment-driven improvements and consistently close the assessment loop.
  • Review and recommend edits to grading rubrics and scoring guidelines upon requests to enhance learning outcome assessments. 

Program Review and Planning

  • Monitor the Program Review process through semesterly check-ins with program chairs to track progress, address challenges, and ensure adherence to deadlines.
  • Manage the completion of annual Program Evaluations and Assessment Reports , ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
  • Facilitate and manage the process to review and revise Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), and Co-curricular Outcomes.
  • Support academic leaders to use backward design principles to ensure clear alignment from core competencies to program learning outcomes and course learning outcomes.

Assessment Administration and Reporting

  • Assist the Director of Assessment in administering surveys and developing comprehensive reports.
  • Maintain project timelines, records, templates, and documentation, ensuring effective communication of assessment progress to institutional stakeholders, including academic affairs, compliance, and accreditation teams.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new tools and technologies for assessment, including AI-powered evaluation systems.
  • Undertake other duties or projects related to academic assessment and institutional effectiveness as assigned.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Training

  • Lead meetings with Program Chairs and Learning Experience Designers (LXDs) to review assessment findings and identify actionable opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and deliver faculty training on the Westcliff Assessment Process to ensure consistent implementation.

Essential Education & KSAs 


Education

  • Master’s degree in education, instructional design, educational psychology, or related field.

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with accreditation standards (e.g., WSCUC) and institutional effectiveness models.
  • Experience with direct and indirect assessment design, particularly in online or hybrid learning environments.
  • Experience using AI-based or automated assessment tools.

Skills

  • 3+ years of experience designing and implementing assessments in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to use assessment rubrics to collect data and evaluate student performance.
  • Competent in independently conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis and synthesize results into trends and thematic findings
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely to multiple audiences, including faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Possess project management skills with a focus on timelines, execution, and results.
  • Technologically adept; experience with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle/Canvas), assessment platforms, and data dashboards.
  • Project management experience.

Abilities

  • Ability to engage with others in collaborative problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a diverse, student-centered environment.

Salary Description
