This team is critical in building that trust—advising other teams on how to design stateful services, anticipating scalability challenges at the storage layer, and enabling datainformed decisionmaking.
This role emphasizes strategic management, database system scaling, and strong crossfunctional collaboration. It requires deep technical expertise in database systems, as well as proven leadership experience to manage architectural changes and lead teams through transitions at scale.
The ideal candidate will drive initiatives to improve database performance, including strategies like migrating workloads across data stores. Were especially interested in those who have led enterprisescale database scaling efforts.
This role is pivotal in managing all of Zapier’s data stores—including our monolith MySQL database, Postgres, ElastiCache, and Redis—and ensuring they meet the performance needs of a rapidly growing user base and business.
As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a team of engineers focused on building, scaling, and optimizing our data storage infrastructure. In this role, you will:
Lead and mentor a team of engineers and SREs, fostering a collaborative, highperformance culture.
Manage and optimize our data stores, ensuring high availability and performance across MySQL, Postgres, ElastiCache, and Redis.
Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
Drive continuous improvement in engineering and SRE practices—including code quality, testing, deployment processes, observability, and resource utilization.
Oversee robust incident management and oncall practices to ensure system reliability and performance.
Youll collaborate with cross functional partners and various product teams to ensure our systems are reliable, scalable, and aligned with business goals.
