Position Type: Temporary Parttime Consulting Agreement
Location: Remote
Duration: 30 weeks (approximately 3035 hours total)
Compensation: $2100

We are looking for a subject matter expert in Flagger training with industry knowledge and experience that will enable us to implement the next generation of simulationbased career exploration and training with our customers within this industry.

The SME will provide consultative guidance in the design of immersive content and support materials. The SME is responsible for exceeding client expectations with a high level of knowledge in Flagger training. Experience with the delivery and management of technology products and solutions would be beneficial. The SME will understand, qualify and propose where simulationbased career exploration andor training opportunities exist from an industry perspective.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with the product design team to create authentic task simulations in service of immersive career exploration andor training products.
  • Provide guidance to designers in an exploratory phase, outline review, and storyboard review.
  • Create task analyses outlining all knowledge and steps a trainee must take to perform a particular skill, and provide media references to inform the final design.
  • Ensure desired industry outcomes are clearly understood and achieved.
  • Evaluate product deliverables and ensure that the features are in line with industry, necessary standardsregulations and customer expectations.

  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Certified Flagger Instructor or Trainer
  • Holds certification from a recognized organization (e.g., ATSSA, NSC, state DOT)
  • Actively trains flaggers for work zones, construction sites, or utility projects

  • RealWorld Field Experience:
  • 3–5+ years as a flagger, crew lead, or site supervisor on active roadwork or infrastructure projects
  • Experience navigating reallife safety challenges, weather conditions, and team coordination
  • Deep Knowledge of Work Zone Safety Protocols:
  • Expert understanding of MUTCD standards, PPE requirements, flagging signals, signage, and spacing
  • Familiarity with federal (OSHA), state, and local regulations governing traffic control and jobsite safety
  • Experience with Workforce Development or Union Training:
  • Background in training adult learners, particularly in union halls, apprenticeship programs, or WFD settings
  • Able to connect simulationactivity content to jobreadiness expectations and safety culture

  • Other Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Strong technology skills and experience with virtual reality products would be beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills of where virtual reality might be the best fit for educational purposes would be beneficial
  • Provide advice on educational program evaluation, e.g. design, process improvement, performance measurement (quality, safety, cost, etc.), educational effectiveness.
  • Ability to communicate with senior level leaders in educational institutions and industry but also, at times, to less technical audiences who may not be as techsavvy.
  • Excellent people and communication (both written & oral) skills.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, time management, problemsolving, and multitasking skills and habits; ability to complete projects under tight deadlines with littleno direct supervision.
  • Self motivation is key.
