Role
We’re looking for a Lead Product Designer to shape the future of our AI experience for continuous deployments. In this role, you’ll craft intuitive, developerfocused experiences that make complex deployment workflows faster, smarter, and more reliable. About the team
Were launching the AI Foundations team to unlock AIs potential across Octopus. Youll architect the tools and technology transforming how Octopus R&D teams deliver our nextgeneration customer solutions. Your work will directly enable solving problems that were previously impossible.

You’ll do this by solving real customer problems and incrementally designing, building, and shipping intuitive, delightful, trustworthy solutions. Our AI foundations will evolve through this process and mature so that all Octopus R&D teams can access them when solving customer problems.

The AI Foundations team will live within our Foundations Group. The Foundations Group exists to provide the tools and technology that power worldclass product experiences.

This is a remote role based in Australia or New Zealand.

What youll do
  • Design intelligent, scalable user experiences for our product used by engineering teams, focusing on surfacing insights, alerts, and workflows powered by LLMs and automation.
  • Translate complex technical concepts (e.g., deployment pipelines, approvals, infrastructure health) into clear, actionable UI that enhances developer efficiency.
  • The AI experiences you help surface will guide engineers to confidently interpret and act on AIgenerated suggestions, balancing automation with transparency and control.
  • Consider endtoend design across multiple surfaces (dashboards, overlays, CLIintegrated UX, notifications) with a bias toward minimalism, speed, and usability that fosters customer trust.
  • Create and evolve UI components and patterns that will be published in our design system.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and product managers to explore how AI can automate decisions, suggest optimisations, and reduce friction in deployment workflows.
  • Actively run usability testing, discovery interviews, and internal testing to validate design decisions and surface insights to guide the teams roadmap.
  • Champion a humancentred, developerfirst mindset in the development of new AI capabilities.

  • What you bring
  • 7+ years of product design experience, ideally 3+ of those years in developerfacing tools or technical B2B platforms.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating how youve translated complex workflows into streamlined, intuitive designs. Favourable if your experience has previously catered to expert users in software engineering or DevOps domains.
  • Familiarity with the deployment lifecycle, monitoring, alerting, and environment configuration.
  • Fluency in Figma and prototyping tools; comfortable building interactive prototypes and clean UI at speed.
  • Deep interest in AIML and how LLMs can augment developer tooling, youre curious about prompt design, semantic search, agentbased automation, or predictive UX.
  • Strength in systems thinking and componentbased design, ensuring consistency across complex surfaces like logs, dashboards, and workflows.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. You can present clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders, and know how to handle tradeoffs with confidence and a clear rationale.

  • Compensation:
    Octopus has an internally open and transparent system for compensation. Any Octonaut can view the compensation for any role at any level. This ensures people doing the same work with the same skill get paid the same.

    The compensation for this role is:

    Level 3 Senior Product Designer
    Maturing: $135k AUD $145k NZD, Performing: $150k AUD $160k NZD
    Level 4 Lead Product Designer
    Maturing: $170k AUD $180k NZD, Performing: $180k AUD $190k NZD

    Salaries exclude Super and Kiwi Saver.
