The US base salary range for this fulltime position is provided below:
The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to jobrelated skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.
- This is a seniorlevel engineering role focused on leading the design, development, and evolution of internal platforms, APIs, and automation services that streamline the software development lifecycle and improve developer productivity across BNSF’s hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- Architect and deliver scalable, reliable developer services including CICD pipelines, test infrastructure, canary and experimentation platforms, and internal tooling
- Lead development of APIs and automation workflows that integrate infrastructure services across public cloud, private cloud, and edge environments
- Drive adoption of platform capabilities through developerfriendly interfaces, SDKs, and documentation
- Define and implement strategies for developer productivity, including automation of repetitive tasks and frictionless onboarding
- Collaborate with engineering, SRE, infrastructure, and product teams to align platform capabilities with developer needs
- Own observability and telemetry strategies for developer platforms using tools like Jaeger, Grafana Tempo, OpenTelemetry
- Mentor engineers across levels and contribute to technical leadership through design reviews, RFCs, and incident retrospectives
- Promote best practices in secure coding, version control, CICD, and infrastructureascode
- Influence platform architecture and contribute to longterm technical strategy for developer experience

- 10+ years of experience in software engineering andor platform engineering roles
- Proven track record of building and operating internal developer platforms or services at scale
- Deep expertise in CICD systems including GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD, and GitOps workflows
- Strong proficiency in Go, Python, or Java, and experience designing APIs and automation frameworks
- Experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure, container orchestration (K8s), service mesh, and infrastructure automation
- Advanced knowledge of observability stacks and telemetry systems, including OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Tempo, and custom tooling
- Experience with secrets management, identity and access control, and infrastructure security principles
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience influencing crossfunctional teams
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead technical initiatives
- Passion for developer experience, opensource infrastructure, and sustainable platform design

- Experience building and operating observability tools at digital native companies or public clouds
- Contributions to opensource projects that enhance developer workflows
- Experience building and operating internal developer platforms or tools, including developerfriendly SDKs and APIs
