The Senior Director of Clinical Operations Metrics, Analytics & Insights is a strategic leader responsible for driving the global performance measurement function within the Clinical Operations organization. This role requires expertise in data acquisition, impactful visualization, detailed analysis, and generating actionable insights, to enhance clinical portfolio, study, country, site-level, and general clinical operational KPIs and metrics. The objective is to provide transparency into clinical trial execution, improve operational efficiency, optimize resource utilization, and ensure quality performance. This role will serve as a key partner to regional and functional leaders, fostering a culture of data-driven operations across Global Clinical Operations (GCO).
The successful candidate will enable predefined periodic and ad-hoc analytics to assess trends, derive insights, support governance, decision-making, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. The role requires strong cross-functional collaboration, leadership presence, and a data-driven mindset to support strategic initiatives and business-critical reporting needs across global clinical trial operations.
The Senior Director is expected to:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive framework for clinical trial KPIs, dashboards, and metrics to track clinical trial performance, operational excellence, and strategic goals.
- Lead a cross-functional team of experts in data visualization, analytics, and clinical operations to deliver actionable insights.
- Collaborate with GCO leaders, informed by operational data and industry benchmarks, to assess and help improve clinical operations performance.
- Lead clinical operations ad-hoc analysis requests and presentations to executive leadership and governance forums.
- Foster a data-driven culture across the clinical operations function.
- Provide analytical support for strategic/operational planning, quarterly business reviews, performance assessments, and ad-hoc analysis requests.
- Ensure high-quality, compliant, and timely reporting of performance indicators at all levels (clinical portfolio, study, region, site, general clinical operations level).
- Leverage both internal data sources and industry benchmark datasets to guide operational strategy.
- Lead and contribute to initiatives aimed at modernizing the GCO Analytics function through predictive analytics, self-service dashboards, and other automation including AI/ML.
Essential Functions of the job:
Leadership and Vision
- Contribute to Clinical Operations leadership strategy and priorities through KPI-driven insights.
- Establish and maintain a long-term vision and roadmap for operational performance measurement.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and align cross-functional KPIs with overall clinical operations strategy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to drive transparency, continuous improvement and performance accountability.
- Guide and mentor a global team of professionals to ensure excellence and consistency.
Strategic & Operational Excellence
- Design and implement dashboards to monitor clinical delivery, productivity, and quality metrics.
- Lead proactive and reactive analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Continuously evolve performance metrics based on changing business needs and external trends.
- Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual operational reviews with operational & executive stakeholders.
Compliance and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure KPIs and analytics processes comply with applicable GxP and regulatory guidelines.
- Support audit readiness and documentation standards for performance tracking systems.
- Lead improvement initiatives across clinical functions informed by metric analysis.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a global team of visualization experts, analytics leads, and domain specialists. Provide strategic direction, career development, and mentoring to team members. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Business Administration, or related field, with 12+ years of experience in Clinical Operations within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including 5+ years direct experience in a leadership role focused on clinical operational KPIs, metrics, analytics & insights.
- Master's degree in computer science, Data Science, Business Administration, or related field, with 8+ years of experience in Clinical Operations within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including 5+ years direct experience in a leadership role focused on clinical operational KPIs, metrics, analytics & insights preferred.

Salary Range: $202,200.00 - $272,200.00 annually

Actual compensation packages are determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location. Packages may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor. The recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for a preferred location during the hiring process. Please note that the listed range reflects the base salary or hourly range only. Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
