MEP Drafter & Designer
Job description
This is a remote position.
- Generate construction drawings and permit-ready documents that meet local code requirements and AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) standards.
- Apply relevant MEP codes and standards (e.g., NEC, ASHRAE, IPC) to ensure compliance.
- Work closely with MEP design engineers to interpret and incorporate their calculations and design intents into BIM models.
- Understand design inputs such as load calculations, airflow, duct sizing, electrical panel schedules, plumbing fixture counts, and how these affect model components.
- Ensure all MEP drawings and models are code-compliant and meet municipal requirements for permitting.
- Assist in preparing permit submittal packages including title sheets, compliance checklists, and necessary annotations.
- Understand the submission protocols for different jurisdictions and adapt models and documentation accordingly.
- Familiarity with building codes, local permit requirements, and standards.
- Basic knowledge of energy modeling, sustainability, or LEED requirements (added advantage).
Requirements
· Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
· 2–5 years of experience in MEP drafting/design for US projects.
· Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Revit is a plus.
· Solid understanding of US construction practices, MEP codes, and permit documentation.
· Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal).
· High attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote setup.
Preferred Skills:
· Experience working with remote US-based teams or AEC outsourcing firms.
· Familiarity with tools like Bluebeam, Navisworks, or BIM 360 (not mandatory but beneficial).
· Ability to interpret and apply NEC, IPC, IMC, and other relevant US codes.
