Hourly Pay Rate: $16.00 (undergraduate) $19 (graduate)
Location: Online
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks accomplished UMGC undergraduate and graduate students to work online as parttime peer tutors for UMGC students. Tutoring is offered remotely in a variety of ways, including realtime audio and live chat sessions using the Tutor.com platform, which students can access from their classrooms, and scheduled visual conferencing via Zoom sessions, which students can attend.
COURSES TO BE SUPPORTED UNDER THIS POSITION:
Undergraduate and graduate courses
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Provide support in study skills, organization skills, time management, reading comprehension, and basic research skills as a UMGC student peer tutor to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in UMGC courses
Provide clarification, examples, and tutorials that support the student in improving their study skills, problemsolving strategies, and authentic learning
Create, update, and present guidelines and other resources related to study skills, organization skills, time management, reading comprehension, and basic research skills for students and other peer tutors
Refer students to specific subject tutors for questions about course concepts related to assigned readings, projects, or homework assignments
Refer students to the library for additional support in research and citation
Promote a professional, respectful, and safe online learning environment
Hours of study and research tutoring services:
MondaysThursdays: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. ET
MondaysThursdays: 5:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. ET
Saturdays and Sundays: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. ET
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Be a current undergraduate or graduate student at UMGC with a minimum of two consecutive semesters completed not more than a year ago
A grade of “A” in any version of PACE (for undergraduate candidates) or in UCSP 615 (for graduate candidates)
Able to demonstrate fair knowledge of good study skills, reading comprehension, and basic research skills
Fair knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to create content material (e.g., onepagers and presentations)
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to clearly communicate stepbystep instructions in verbal and written formats
Ability to work closely with one or more students at a time to ensure student success
Ability to work with diverse student populations
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Letter of recommendation or referral from a UMGC faculty member
Background in teaching, tutoring, andor other type of learning support experience initiatives
