Join Aprio's Business Operations team and you will help clients maximize their opportunities.  Aprio is a progressive, fast-growing firm looking for a Senior Tax Director to join their dynamic team.

We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to head our Canada National Tax Office (NTO). This role is pivotal in laying the foundation and shaping the firm’s national tax policy, generating Federal and Provincial tax thought-leadership, and ensuring technical excellence across all tax practices. The ideal candidate will be a recognized tax expert with deep knowledge of Canadian tax legislation, regulatory frameworks, and industry trends.

Strategic Leadership:
  • Define and execute the strategic vision for the National Tax Office (NTO) in alignment with the firm’s national and global tax objectives.
  • Serve as a key member of the national tax leadership team, contributing to firm-wide strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Build a team of Canada tax expertise across multiple tax technical areas for Federal and Provincial matters.
  • Represent the firm in national and international tax policy forums, industry associations, and regulatory consultations.

  • Technical Excellence & Policy Development:
  • Lead the development of tax technical positions and policy interpretations on complex and emerging tax issues.
  • Oversee the creation and dissemination of technical publications, alerts, and thought leadership to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments, providing timely guidance and strategic insights to clients and internal teams.
  • Be a resource to generate standardized tools and templates relating to tax technical issues.

  • Quality, Risk & Compliance:
  • Ensure consistent application of tax quality standards and risk management protocols across all service lines.
  • Collaborate with internal audit, legal, and compliance teams to manage tax-related risks and uphold regulatory obligations.
  • Lead internal reviews and support external inspections or regulatory inquiries as needed.

  • Talent Development & Knowledge Sharing:
  • Mentor and develop high-potential tax professionals, fostering a pipeline of future leaders.
  • Lead national training initiatives and technical upskilling programs for tax professionals through existing programs for In-Depth Tax Program and other third parties.
  • Promote a collaborative knowledge-sharing environment across service lines and regions which include other firms in the Aprio Professional Services+ practice.

  • Client & Market Engagement:
  • Support client service teams with high-level technical advice and strategic tax planning insights from existing and new developments in law, regulations and court cases.
  • Participate in key client engagements, offering thought leadership and technical depth.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by identifying emerging tax trends and market opportunities to enable go to market teams to collaborate with clients and prospects.

  • Collaboration & Influence:
  • Build strong relationships with partners, practice leaders, and external stakeholders including government agencies, industry groups, and academia.
  • Act as a liaison between the Canadian tax practice and global tax leadership to align on cross-border initiatives and global tax policy.

  • Qualifications:
  • CPA, CA designation (or equivalent); Master’s in Taxation or LLM (Tax) preferred
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in Canadian tax, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Deep expertise in corporate tax, international tax, and tax policy
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and influence at the executive level
  • Strong communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
