The Opportunity:
The Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and assigning accurate diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS systems. This role ensures the accuracy and completeness of medical records for billing, reimbursement, compliance, and reporting purposes. The Medical Coder plays a key role in supporting revenue cycle integrity, reducing claim denials, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze medical records and provider documentation to ensure appropriate coding of diagnoses, procedures, and services.
  • Assign accurate codes for all services provided, in accordance with coding guidelines and payer-specific regulations.
  • Abstract relevant clinical and demographic data from patient records.
  • Ensure coding compliance with federal regulations and organizational policies (e.g., CMS, HIPAA).
  • Collaborate with providers to clarify documentation and resolve discrepancies when needed.
  • Support the billing department in resolving coding-related claim denials or rejections.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, payer rules, and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in coding audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Protect the confidentiality and integrity of medical information.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent credential required.
  • 1–3 years of medical coding experience in outpatient, inpatient, or specialty settings.
  • Strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and coding software.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and payer policies.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with specialty-specific coding (e.g., wound care, surgical, behavioral health).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology.
  • Experience working in a multi-provider or multi-site healthcare environment.
Service Fee:

Industry standards applicable to the state depend on work experience and level of expertise.

Hours:

US Eastern Standard Time (EST) – 9am to 6pm
