Since 2019, and thanks to the support from the European Commission, OpenNebula Systems has been leading the edge computing innovation in Europe, investing heavily in research and open source development, and playing a key role in strategic EU initiatives such as the IPCEI-CIS and the “European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud”.

We are currently seeking a Cloud-Edge Systems Full-Stack Engineering Advisor (Contractor) to join our IPCEI-CIS project as part of our new team developing the next-generation management platform for the Cloud-Edge Computing Continuum. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge initiative, shaping the future of cloud-edge interoperability, AI integration, and next-gen infrastructure management.

Objective

As part of the ONEnextgen team, you will contribute to the design, validation, and documentation of advanced cloud-edge infrastructures and services. This full-stack engineering role is primarily advisory, focused on providing technical insight and hands-on support for the architecture, deployment, and operation of complex distributed systems. Your work will ensure that the project outcomes align with IPCEI-CIS objectives, follow best practices in full-stack and cloud-edge development, and meet the stringent requirements of Work Package 2 (WP2).

You will work closely with software engineers, system architects, and project leads to assess technical solutions, validate full-stack architectural components, and deliver robust, scalable outputs. Your contributions will help ensure clarity, consistency, and engineering excellence across all deliverables, particularly in multi-vendor and heterogeneous environment.



Scope

Activities in WP2 Abstraction Layer for the Cloud-Edge Continuum of IPCEI-CIS ONEnextgen Project (UNICO IPCEI-2023-003)

Services

• Provide expert full-stack guidance on the development and lifecycle management of distributed cloud-edge platforms across diverse cluster types (e.g., constrained edge nodes, 5G, high-performance computing).
• Contribute to the design and validation of the abstraction layer that connects data center, cloud, and edge environments.
• Support the technical documentation of services and architectures, ensuring quality, coherence, and compliance with interoperability standards.
• Analyze and refine deployment models, integration pipelines, and orchestration workflows in complex, multi-vendor scenarios.
• Review and help shape release notes, infrastructure blueprints, and technical materials related to use case implementations.
• Evaluate emerging frameworks and technologies relevant to front-end, back-end, and infrastructure components, providing input to guide architectural decisions.
• Promote consistency and clarity in the technical outputs by contributing to reusable patterns, standardized practices, and knowledge transfer activities.
• Collaborate with IPCEI-CIS partners and ecosystem stakeholders, ensuring technical alignment and mutual benefit across joint efforts.

From 1st August 2025 to 30th June 2026 (11 months)

Remote (occasionally F2F coordination meetings)


Budget

Maximum hourly rate is 35 euros

Maximum work hours per year is 1.800

The maximum estimated cost is 5.250 euros per month, and a total of 57.750 euros.


Technical Specifications

Contractors must demonstrate the following requirements:

• +5 years of hands-on experience in the specific area

Evaluation Criteria

Eligible contractors will be prioritized according to the following criteria:

• Price: Cost per hour
• Education: Bachelor, Master or PhD in Computer Science
• Additional Experience: Total number of years of additional experience (beyond the required minimum)

Administrative Specifications

Before the signature of the contract, the successful selected contractor will be requested to provide the following certificates:

• Positive certificate, issued by the local Social Security Authority, to the effect that the contractor is up-to-date in compliance with its Social Security obligations; or similar document according to the the law of the country in which the contractor is established
• Positive certificate, issued by the local Tax Authority, to the effect that the contractor is up-to-date in compliance with its tax obligations; or similar document according to the the law of the country in which the contractor is established

The successful selected contractor will be given a two weeks period after the notification of the award to provide the above-mentioned documents.
