Job description

Are you looking to kickstart your career in cybersecurity? Datacom is offering a 12-week unpaid work experience placement, one day per week, based in Auckland or Christchurch!

This is a unique chance to gain real-world experience, connect with industry experts, and develop job-ready skills in one of the most in-demand areas of tech—Cybersecurity.

We’re looking for a diverse range of talent: whether you're currently studying a cybersecurity qualification or simply passionate and ready to start learning, we encourage you to apply!

About Datacom

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Opportunity

  • The internship will run from August 2025 to November 2025.
  • It is expected you will be in the Datacom office (in Christchurch or Auckland) one day per week, this may be split between 2 half day sessions.

What can I expect during the Placement?

As an intern with Datacom’s Cybersecurity team, you’ll gain exposure to a wide range of cybersecurity disciplines including Cyber Defense Operations, Protective Security, Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC), Application Security, OT Security, Project Management, and Security Awareness Training.

In addition to your time with the Cyber team, you’ll also spend time with other areas of the wider Datacom business—giving you a broader understanding of how different teams collaborate and operate in a leading tech environment.

What we're looking for

  • Enthusiasm and a great attitude
  • Self-Learners, people passionate about Learning
  • Team player, able to collaborate in a team
  • Good communicator

About our Early Careers Programme

This is a short-term placement, however if you join Datacom permanently as an Early Career, you'll join our Early Careers Programme. The Early Careers Team will be part of your journey for the first 12 months of your career. Supporting you through Induction, mentoring, events and regularly offering you extra resources and opportunities to help grow your career and connect you with your wider peer group all while you embed in your new permanent role.

Why join us here at Datacom?

Datacom is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest suppliers of Information Technology professional services. We have managed to maintain a dynamic, agile, small business feel that is often diluted in larger organisations of our size. It's our people that give Datacom its unique culture and energy that you can feel from the moment you meet with us.

We care about our people and provide a range of perks such as social events, chill-out spaces, remote working, flexi-hours and professional development courses to name a few. You’ll have the opportunity to learn, develop your career, connect and bring your true self to work. You will be recognised and valued for your contributions and be able to do your work in a collegial, flat-structured environment.

We operate at the forefront of technology to help Australia and New Zealand’s largest enterprise organisations explore possibilities and solve their greatest challenges, so you will never run out of interesting new challenges and opportunities.
