Sr. Materials/Validation Engineer

YETI is looking for a highly motivated Senior Materials/Validation Engineer with a proven track record of developing new materials suited to their use cases. You thrive in fast-paced environments with entrepreneurial DNA and are comfortable charting new territory. Your strong organizational skills allow you to stay on top of multiple projects at the same time. Your applied R&D background allows you to research, create, review, and support the development and application of your work. You have a natural curiosity and repeatedly ask the question, “Is there a better way?” You can trouble-shoot and problem-solve every different kind of product, manufacturing, or material challenge thrown your way. In fact, you love solving problems – the bigger the challenge, the more satisfying the resolution. 

Responsibilities: 

• Identify, develop and qualify material solutions that align with the needs of YETI’s product roadmap 

• Manage multiple projects from ideation to hand-over 

• Work independently on multiple simultaneous projects 

• Work with development teams to document critical to quality specifications for new technologies or materials 

• Create proof of principle prototypes 

• Establish product manufacturing specifications and critical to quality metrics 

• Scout for new technologies and/or new materials that are aligned with the product roadmap. 

• Work with internal and external labs to establish appropriate test criteria for new materials 

• Technical documentation of project progress as well as any functional or design constraints associated with the idea. 

Qualifications and Attributes: 

• Fluent in English, both written and verbal 

• B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Material Science, or equivalent work experience 

• At least 6 years of Engineering or R&D experience, or a combination of both. 

• Domestic and international travel may be required (up to 15%) 

• Experience with plastics manufacturing (injection molding preferred) 

• Experience commercializing a material or technology solution 

• Understanding of the interactions between multi-component assemblies 

• Areas of knowledge include polymers, metals, glass, ceramics, coatings and decorative coatings. 

• Strong communication and presentation skills 

• Ability to distill complex information into concepts a non-technical audience can understand 

• Familiarity with various metal grades and associated performance, preferred 

• Experience working remotely with an international development team
