This position will be a member of a team responsible for the tax structuring of an expanding global operation, including assessing permanent establishment risk, implementing indirect tax solutions, and establishing entities internationally to achieve business goals while minimizing any risk of double taxation. The candidate would work with the Director and the rest of the Tax team in areas of income tax compliance, accounting for income taxes, indirect taxation, tax audits, and transfer pricing. This role will assist in the implementation of systems to enable better tax reporting, as well as automating processes to the extent possible. The candidate will help ensure Telesat meets its compliance obligations, assess tax legislation and ensure the resulting taxes are accurately reflected in any financial reporting.
Responsibilities
Assist the Director in establishing an efficient global tax structure while achieving business objectives
Be responsible for evaluating and integrating indirect tax functionalities into the tax engine to enable accurate billing for future customers;
Assist in establishing appropriate transfer pricing arrangements, and collaborate with the Legal team to develop intercompany agreements;
Assist the Director with facilitating tax efficient cash repatriation from subsidiaries;
Work with the Tax team and IT to implement tax software solutions to enable efficient reporting;
Work with the Tax team to ensure appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes;
Work with the Tax team to respond to audit requests;
Act as resource to internal departments to answer tax related questions;
Assisting the business with tax planning issues as required;
Work with the Tax team in estimating and monitoring annual cash taxes.
Liaise with external tax advisors as appropriate
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Accounting.
Master’s Degree in Business Taxation and/or completion of In-Depth Tax Courses an asset
Recognized accounting designation (CPA)
A minimum of 10 years of relevant tax experience
Experience with ERP systems
Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian taxes as well as global tax concepts and principles
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Ability to pay close attention to detail
Good organizational, planning and time management skills
Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Office suite
Team spirit and clear communication skills, both verbal and written
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP)
