Job Overview:
The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining security protocols, policies, and systems to shield the organization’s networks and systems from cyber threats. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency in security technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and network access controls.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Security System Design and Implementation
Design and implement security architectures for network systems.
Install, configure, and manage security tools such as firewalls, antivirus software, patch management systems, etc.
Implement and manage virtual private networks (VPNs) and other security protocols to ensure protected communication.
2. Monitoring and Threat Detection
Monitor network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity that could signify a security breach.
Use advanced threat detection technologies to identify and mitigate potential threats in real-time.
Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments on existing network infrastructure.
3. Incident Response and Management
Respond to network security breaches and viruses, conducting thorough investigations to determine the source of attacks.
Develop and implement strategies for incident discovery, intervention, and recovery.
Document incidents and their resolution, including the impacts and the steps taken to prevent future occurrences.
4. Policy and Compliance
Develop and enforce network security policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR, etc.
Work with compliance and audit staff to ensure all systems meet security prerequisites as prescribed by IT standards and procedures.
5. Education and Training
Educate and train staff on network security protocols and best practices.
Keep up-to-date with the latest security systems, software, best practices, and news related to cybersecurity.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Experience: Several years of proven experience in network security or related roles with a strong understanding of network infrastructure and data protection.
Technical Skills: Deep technical knowledge of database and operating system security, firewall and intrusion detection/prevention protocols, secure coding practices, and a variety of attack patterns and threats.
Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security, or CompTIA Security+ are highly desirable.
Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong capacity for critical thinking and analysis.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, capable of effectively articulating complex security risks and technologies to non-technical stakeholders.
