Job description


Our client is seeking a Contractor to provide the following services Fuel Handling Engineer to oversee fuel handling design and fabrication work at the Teledyne Brown office in Huntsville, AL. In this role, you will create and review design solutions for fuel handling equipment, structures, and systems for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor.

Candidates must have extensive experience in system and equipment design and qualification. Experience in system and equipment operation, maintenance, and fabrication is also valued. This role will report to a Fuel Handling System Manager and will join the Natrium Fuel Handling Team.

This role will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors and associated fuel handling equipment.

Tasks:

  • Oversight of vendor design and delivery of nuclear fuel handling systems and equipment from requirements development through delivery of equipment.
  • Support vendor oversight of design, fabrication, construction, and testing of systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate and oversee design and fabrication work, including regular on-site support.
  • Provide technical direction on supplier conformance requests (SCR) and facilitate prompt response.
  • Support on site vendor design review meetings, weekly status meetings, equipment design discussions, design activity kick off meeting, mid job reviews.
  • Facility input coordination in a timely manner to reduce schedule/cost impacts.
  • Develop system and equipment design products such as 3D CAD models, calculations, requirements, system design descriptions, and interface control documents.
  • Identify and ensure effective application of design codes such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Present designs or participate in design reviews.
  • Propose and define testing programs. Provide support and oversight during test execution, evaluation of test results, and reporting of test results.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred. Other engineering disciplines may be considered if the candidate has relevant experience.
  • M.S. and Doctorate degrees may be credited for up to two and four years of experience respectively.
  • A minimum of fifteen years of mechanical design experience is required
  • Excellent technical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong communication skills desired.
