About Samsung Food
At Samsung Food, we’re trying to build a more sustainable future by inspiring home cooks everywhere to tackle holistic health through nutrition and reduce food waste. We’re a fully-owned, independently-operated Samsung subsidiary (acquired in 2019) primed to grow on top of Samsung’s global resources and hardware ecosystem. We are passionate about what we build and who we build for within one of the world’s largest corporations to bring our highly-rated native app experiences to tens of millions of TVs, wearables, and kitchen appliances in the years to come.
We’re a remote-first, globally distributed team of 100+ people based across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and everywhere in between. We’ve been fully distributed since 2016 and pioneered many of the practices which are commonplace in remote workplaces today.

About the Role
The Head of QA is a senior engineering manager responsible for defining and executing the quality strategy across Samsung Food. This role will lead a team of QA professionals - organized into QA pods embedded in cross-functional streams - to ensure our products and technologies are reliable, secure, performant, and contextually accurate.
The scope includes both engineering process quality (functional testing, automation, release readiness) and data quality (particularly critical given our work in food, nutrition, and health). This manager will also serve as a key interface with other Samsung QA as well as internal delivery and data governance teams to champion a culture of fast, high-quality, and privacy-conscious product delivery.
Responsibilities
Organizational Quality Strategy
- Define a cohesive quality strategy across all product-engineering streams.
- Align this strategy with organizational goals across engineering velocity, product satisfaction, health safety, and user trust.
- Serve as part of Samsung Food’s Brain Trust, which together with the company’s LT acts as the senior management team for the org.
- Be the executive voice for quality - driving org-wide investment in the systems, standards, and culture needed to improve it.
Team Leadership: QA Pods & Stream Integration
- Lead a cross stream QA org consisting of manual and automation QA engineers, structured into QA pods embedded within streams.
- Empower QA team members to act as both stream partners and central standards advocates.
- Effectively manage quality assurance within a complex socio-technical ecosystem - balancing interconnected teams and systems without slowing down individual team velocity or relying on monolithic end-to-end testing approaches.
- Scale and support the team through coaching, career planning, hiring, and mentorship.
Metrics, Goals & Quality Accountability
- Design a framework of quality KPIs per stream (e.g., bug density, release stability, automation coverage, test flake rates, etc.). KPIs should also include customer metrics.
- Set and track quality goals in partnership with stream Engineering Managers and QA pod leads.
- Track a monthly quality scorecard for each stream - using metrics to hold streams accountable and guide improvement.
- Establish a quarterly quality review process, serving as an in-depth extension for the monthly scorecard.
- Automation - AI
Cross-Functional Product & Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Managers to define clear acceptance criteria and ensure features meet business and UX expectations.
- Collaborate with Engineering Managers to integrate QA planning early in the cycle, and surface technical debt and risk. This should also include performance testing.
- Partner with the Head of Customer to co-own the end-to-end customer experience, aligning quality standards with customer expectations and driving shared feedback, resolution, and prevention efforts.
- Maintain shared visibility into post-release quality issues and triage.
Privacy-Aware QA & Information Security
- Collaborate with the Data Platform team (data governance and management) to ensure that:
- QA processes consider privacy risks for personal and health-related data (e.g., PII, PHI).
- Test data and environments adhere to privacy compliance standards (e.g., anonymized test sets, secure logging).
- Understand and influence how privacy and security requirements shape testing scope, acceptance gates, and rollout checks.
- Ensure QA practices are aligned with Samsung-wide security frameworks, where applicable.
Domain-Specific Quality (Food & Nutrition)
- Work with the Food Graph and Wellness teams to:
- Define domain-specific quality standards (e.g., nutritional accuracy, food categorization consistency, health recommendation validation).
- Act as a consultant for the design of domain-aware QA processes - such as ingredient tagging validation, meal plan accuracy checks, etc.
- Consult the team in areas of implementing tooling for domain data testing, possibly in collaboration with ML/Data Science.
Samsung-Wide QA & Agile Transformation
- Partnering with LT and Strategic Execution and Delivery to drive more agile and collaborative development practices with other Samsung QA orgs. Consult and inform around modern quality tooling, continuous delivery support, and org-level improvements that potentially bridge the Samsung/Whisk interface.
Success Indicators
- Each stream has a clearly defined quality dashboard and actively managed quality goals.
- Post-release bugs decrease, automation coverage rises, and release stability improves.
- Product, data, and privacy-related quality concerns are surfaced and addressed early.
- Samsung QA collaboration results in fewer integration delays.
- Food and health-specific data QA processes exist and are measurable.
- Strategically define what success looks like.
Requirements
- 10+ in software engineering with 2-4 years in a senior engineering management role.
- Demonstrated success building QA orgs at a fast-paced, product-driven company.
- Experience across manual testing, test automation, and CI/CD pipelines, including tooling and frameworks.
- Familiarity with web, mobile, and backend testing in cross-platform environments.
- Empathy for both engineers and end users, with the independence to make delivery-phase quality decisions including when to hold the line - based on real user impact. Bias toward practical, scalable solutions.
- Proven success leading distributed QA teams embedded in agile product streams.
- Skilled in partnering across Product, Engineering, Design, Customer Support and Legal/Compliance to align on standards, close feedback loops, and drive continuous improvement across the customer experience.
- Track record of driving agile QA transformations, especially in complex or global organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across diverse cultural and functional contexts — including product, design, and engineering teams spanning North America, Europe, and Asia — with sensitivity to how different teams define and deliver quality.
- Comfortable managing upward and laterally, including with external enterprise stakeholders (e.g., Samsung).
