Electrical Engineer – Strategic Projects

Mid to Senior Level

About the Position

As an Electrical Engineer in the Strategic Projects group, you will function as a subject matter expert working on NEIs most complex projects for a specific client. This position will have a high level of autonomy and involve leadership, mentoring, and engineering responsibilities. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment helping with QA/QC and establishing / enforcing best practices and procedures.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 / year

The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.

This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Works closely with technical and proposal teams acting as a subject matter expert on the most complex projects within the Strategic Projects group for a specific oil & gas client of NEI
  • Guide client through the process of electrifying existing industrial oil & gas processes as the subject matter expert and client contact
  • Performs the review of detailed electrical design and engineering for all aspects of electric power systems of oil & gas equipment
  • Perform engineering oversight on various system studies in PowerFactory, ETAP, SKM, Milsoft, or similar system modelling software.
  • Reviews submittals for conformance with specifications and design
  • Assists with the creation and enforcement of technical standards across the department
  • Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including cost estimates, budget reports, proposals, and studies for complex projects
  • Performs field inspection and construction supervision services as needed
  • Checks the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for overall quality and accuracy as required
  • Maintains a strong understanding and comprehension of applicable Codes and Standards such as NEC and NESC
  • Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
  • Attends safety training and follows safety rules and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
Must Have
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant engineering and/or field experience
  • Licensure: PE is required
  • Experience with oil & gas systems
  • Strong understanding of power systems such as substation, transmission, and distribution networks
  • Experience with motors, drives, and other electrical well pad or plant infrastructure.
  • Experience with electrical system components such as synchronous condensers, capacitor banks, voltage regulators, compressor stations, mobile substations, etc.
  • Experience performing ArcFlash studies and Short Circuit analysis
  • Experience with Milsoft is a plus
  • Proficiency with other industry software such PowerFactory, ETAP, SKM, SEL Relaying, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of motor control centers and switch gear
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Experience transferring knowledge to junior staff
  • Ability to travel occasionally to job sites and collaborate with client’s technical staff and leadership
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
