Job description

Title: Estimator, Civil  Construction-Applicants to be based in the US; sponsorships are not available

Type: Full Time

Location: 100% REMOTE 

Reports To: Chief Estimator

We are a full-service, Site Development Contractor that works throughout the Mid- Atlantic Region specializing in a broad range of services: Turnkey Site Development, Wet Utilities, Dry Utilities, Erosion & Sediment Control, Bond Release, Stormwater Maintenance, Stormwater/BMP Installation, Stormwater Inspections & Repairs, and Jet/Vac Truck & CCTV services.

As a successful contracting business, we are growing our clientele and currently have a full-time, long term opportunity for a Civil Estimator to join our team of professionals in our headquarters in Falls Church/Merrifield, Virginia. In this role you will utilize your analytical skills to interpret civil plans, review civil plan sheets, complete take-offs Trimble Business Center - HCE, and work directly with our Chief Estimator to assist with developing cost estimates and putting together proposals for various site work construction projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete take offs using Trimble Business Center – HCE
  • Evaluate site access and conditions and propose production levels for proposals
  • Manage take-off and bidding process for small site package opportunities
  • Manage take-off and bidding process for Green Infrastructure (Stormwater) installation projects
  • Work with Estimating Assistant to keep bid matrix and bidding calendar current and to put together backup info needed for proposals
  • When needed, complete linear take offs from plans
  • Work with our internal Superintendents to evaluate time/materials/equipment needed to perform tasks that we self-perform for specific opportunities
  • Prepare proposal for review and build proposal folder with backup related to project
  • Identify scope of work and assumptions and exclusions proposal is based off of
  • Submit and follow up on status of proposals submitted to clients
  • Make site visits as needed to confirm scope of work
  • For proposals won, hand off project and proposal to Operations Team for successful project completion

 

Required Qualifications:
  • A.S. or B.S. Degree: Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, Finance, Accounting, Business Management or equivalent is preferred
  • General understanding of construction (i.e. professional or educational/internship)
  • Must have basic heavy equipment knowledge (as far as what equipment can be used to complete different scopes of work/tasks)
  • Experience using earthwork take-off software and open to using/learning Trimble Business Center –HCE
  • Experienced with all aspects of site development (E&S, clearing, earthwork and excavation, utilities, fine grading, concrete and paving, stabilization, )
  • Experience bidding Stormwater Facilities/BMP’s isa plus
