Position Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of WellSpace Health’s financial operations. This position supports key accounting functions across multiple entities, including lease and revenue accounting, fixed assets, grant monitoring, and audit preparation. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong analytical skills and a collaborative mindset.

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of experience in similar role required, with at least 3 years in a non‐profit and/or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP.
  • Proficient in accounting software systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, problem‐solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial data clearly to both finance and non‐finance stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self‐monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.

 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform and reconcile monthly patient revenue accruals in coordination with revenue cycle team.
  • Maintain and manage lease accounting in accordance with current accounting standards (e.g., ASC 842), ensuring timely updates and accuracy.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, work‐in‐progress tracking, and annual physical inventory coordination.
  • Process journal entries and reconciliations for WellSpace Health and its affiliated entities.
  • Prepare complex journal entries to support the monthly, quarterly, and year‐end close processes.
  • Track and monitor construction‐related expenditures, ensuring alignment with project budgets and timelines.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare and analyze cost and financial reports for funders, including federal, state, and local agencies, ensuring adherence to funding requirements.
  • Monitor grant performance, analyze spending versus budget, provide variance analysis, and deliver actionable insights and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Support developing budgets for grants in collaboration with program and development teams.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and financial analyses to support executive decision‐making and program planning.
  • Assist with annual audit preparations by compiling documentation, responding to auditor inquiries, and ensuring compliance with all audit requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, FQHC regulations, and organizational policies to mitigate financial and operational risk.
  • Serve as a collaborative finance partner across departments, helping to resolve discrepancies and improve financial workflows.
  • Assist the Deputy Chief of Finance with other departmental tasks as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to handle, or reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

 

 

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
