Job Description

The Clinician Documentation Educator is responsible for analyzing ERP trend sheet, PCCI and open coder comms reports for deficiency trends. Proactively notify clinicians of their deficiencies per escalation SOP.

Location: Canton, OH

This is a remote positions but may require occasional meetings at the corporate offices, located in Canton, OH.

The ideal candidate must have RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CCS-P, or other job-related accreditation to be considered for this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyzes coder communication and other reports for trends.
  • Reviews medical records and identifies potential gaps in clinical documentation for hospitalist medicine and payer populations (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, etc.) as directed.
  • Identify and trend erroneous coder communication.
  • Remains current in EHR/EMR capabilities and updates. Works with site Directors and EHR/EMR reps to ensure proper documentation, compliance with CMS, CPT, ICD-10 and USACS guidelines and ensure that USACS receives a chart extract containing all necessary components.
  • Analyzes reports for trends. Data is reviewed and manipulated to provide clinician feedback for documentation improvement.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends, practices and principles of documentation and government regulations through reading materials and/or attending educational seminars.
  • Performs and assists with coding and other department duties as needed.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of coding standards and application to ongoing evaluation of medical record documentation
  • Consistently meets established productivity targets for record review

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and experience using ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM and CPT and HCPCS coding.
  • Knowledge of payer guidelines.
  • Knowledge of and skill using personal computers in a Windows environment with an emphasis on word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify, research and solve problems and discrepancies.
  • Ability to organize data and produce outcome statistics.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate in writing or verbally with physicians, coworkers, management, and third-party payers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively perform in a multi-task work environment.
  • Ability to process assigned duties in an organized manner.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CCS-P, or other job-related accreditation required.   
  • At least one year of coding experience or equivalent training/education.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry guidelines and regulations required.

Hourly rate may be determined on several factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, education, geographical location and requirements stated in job description.
