Job description

At Sanoma Learning, we all share a deep-rooted passion for education and are committed to support teachers to help all students to reach their potential, so they can be at their best in class.

We are proud of the impact we make together across Europe, local as well as international. As our teams and the scope of our impact grows, so do the opportunities for us to learn from each other – across country borders and areas of expertise. With over 3.000 colleagues, we work on seamlessly integrated print, digital and blended learning solutions to help teachers and schools develop the talents of every child.  Our people are passionate and committed and always willing to go the extra mile for students, teachers, schools, our shareholders and each other.

We believe that Data and AI can uncover multiple opportunities for education, including both internal efficiencies and new product opportunities; currently AI is a priority theme for Sanoma Learning.

AI Project Manager

The AI Project Manager will play a pivotal role in driving coordinated execution of AI initiatives across Sanoma Learning. The role involves managing 1-2 priority AI initiatives hands-on while also enabling success of the broader AI initiative portfolio through governance, roadblock resolution, and cross-company coordination.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Head of Data and AI, the AI Project Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams – including product owners, data scientists, architects, privacy officers, operations leaders, and counterparts in operating companies – to ensure efficient, compliant, and scalable implementation of AI solutions. This role also assumes matrix reporting into Competence Lead of Project management.

Key Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for the following:

Portfolio-Level Coordination of AI Initiatives

  • Own and drive the AI use case lifecycle process from ideation to scaling, ensuring consistent practices across initiatives.
  • Maintain an up-to-date overview of all AI use cases across Sanoma Learning and the relevant tooling ecosystem.
  • Act as an enabler of AI development, helping teams resolve operational and resource bottlenecks.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and alignment between operating companies to avoid duplication and accelerate learning.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Privacy, and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to the EU AI Act and internal compliance standards.
  • Support governance processes that ensure AI initiatives remain aligned with strategic priorities and risk frameworks.

End-to-End Ownership of Select AI Projects

  • Lead 1-2 high-priority AI initiatives during early phases (discovery, experimentation, validation), until they are ready for handover to product teams.
  • Collaborate with the AI Experimentation team, New Product Concept team, and Operations stakeholders to deliver tangible prototypes and business validation.
  • Ensure smooth transition to product ownership for initiatives moving toward scaling or integration in core operations.

A successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum) are a strong advantage.
  • Additional coursework or certification in AI/ML, data governance, or digital transformation is a plus.

Experience

  • 4+ years of professional experience in managing digital, innovation, or technology-related projects, with at least 2 years in AI, analytics, or data-driven initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams to deliver projects in dynamic, matrixed organizations.
  • Experience in managing projects across multiple stakeholders and business units, preferably in multi-country or federated environments.
  • Familiarity with AI use case development, especially in early-stage contexts.
  • Exposure to regulatory or compliance-heavy environments, and working knowledge of topics like GDPR, AI ethics, or EU AI Act would be a plus
  • Hands-on experience with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) and reporting dashboards.

Skills

  • Strong program and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple AI initiatives simultaneously while ensuring clarity and accountability.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities, capable of interfacing confidently with technical teams, business leaders, and compliance functions.
  • Sound understanding of AI and data concepts
  • Ability to structure ambiguous problems, facilitate alignment, and drive decision-making across teams.
  • Comfortable with documentation, knowledge sharing, and governance processes that support consistent scaling of innovation.
  • Collaborative and proactive mindset, with an ability to connect the dots across organizational silos.

Personal Attributes:

  • Data-driven decision-making approach
  • Proactive and positive “can-do” attitude, demonstrating initiative and resilience.
  • Strong organizational skills, adept at managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated, consistently seeking opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Passionate about opportunities in Data and AI space
