Technical Consultants are responsible for providing expert consultation about and technical configuration of our products; this role will support Catalog, MasteryConnect, Analytics, and Academic Benchmark products for new and existing customers. The ideal candidate for this position enjoys flexing their problem-solving skills, working with data pipelines, and writing basic code/scripting. This role requires adaptability, innovative thinking, and an affinity for technical concepts. To support some of these products, you’ll become a trusted day-to-day point of contact while other products are managed behind the scenes.
What you'll be doing:
Work with internal resources and end users to determine technical requirements for authentication, SIS integration, etc.
Assess, evaluate, and propose technical solutions according to customer needs and constraints
Provide technical consultation and assistance for internal resources and customers including best practices and opportunities for efficiency improvement
Pilot and test new middleware software designed to assist in transferring data between customer data source software and Canvas
Maintain solution ownership from planning to delivery
Ensure proper documentation is complete, current, and stored appropriately from task start to finish
Focus on clear and concise communication, both oral and written, to ensure proper expectations are set and comprehension of complex and technical topics is established
Build and maintain custom tools to increase workflow and productivity for the team
Minimize Instructure’s exposure and risk as it applies to technical integrations and configurations
What you will need to know/have:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
2+ years experience in SaaS-based implementations or technical support
Technical expertise with multiple identity provider authentication systems - CAS, SAML, LDAP, OAuth
Experience with SQL and Relational Data Models
Experience and familiarity in working with APIs
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus
Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
Some experience with a programming language strongly preferred
Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including end users, upper management, and other departments
Can conform to shifting priorities and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Experience working in higher education or K12 experience preferred
