Software Quality Engineer

What we are looking for

Our Lifesum team is growing! We’re looking for a Software Quality Engineer who wants to lead the work to drive our quality assurance efforts, with a strong focus on testing, reliability, continuous improvement, and product excellence.

Interacting with developers and stakeholders is very much part of the day-to-day, so communication skills are vital. We’re a small, lean team, so we’re looking for strong individuals who can take direction and run with it, challenge the status quo, and work with both team members and stakeholders proactively. You will report directly to and work closely with our Head of Technology.

You will join a diverse team in the Tech department to ensure all elements of our platform are secure, compliant, and scalable.

What you will do

• Thoroughly test our mobile applications and web shop, helping us ship with confidence.
• You’re the last line of defence against defects and regressions making it into the user experience, but you take the context and impact of the defect into account when making a judgement call as to its severity.
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders and developers to clarify requirements, identify edge cases, and catch bugs before they reach production.
• Take ownership of the creation and maintenance of detailed, high-quality test cases and test plans for all new features and regression testing.
• Proactively flag issues in user flows and inconsistencies across platforms, advocating for quality at all stages of development.
• Help shape and document QA processes and best practices as we scale.

Who are we looking for: 

• At least 2 years of experience in manual testing, ideally within a product-focused or startup environment.
• You’ve got a sharp eye for detail and a methodical approach to finding bugs, reproducing issues, and documenting test cases.
• You’re eager to learn test automation: you don’t need to be an expert yet, but you should be curious, self-driven, and excited to pick it up.
• You’re experienced at working collaboratively with developers and product managers to define and refine requirements.
• You show excellent communication skills, both written and verbal: you're comfortable reporting bugs clearly, offering constructive feedback, and contributing to discussions.
• You are self-organised, with the ability to manage yours and your team’s workloads around the fast-paced needs of a growing startup.
• You sweat the details, but are able to balance them pragmatically against other commitments.
• Overall, you’re enthusiastic and motivated about quality, user experience, and building software that truly works for people.
• Initially a 1 year fixed term contract with potential to transition to an open ended contract. 

Nice to have

• Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools like Postman for API testing.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (we use GitHub Actions).
• Basic understanding of accessibility, performance, or usability testing.
