The Product

ShippyPro is the platform that simplifies shipping and fulfillment processes for merchants, helping them automate and speed up their operations. We are currently undertaking a major initiative to modernize our tech stack to a fully distributed system to support our business growth for the coming years.

Who You Are

You're a data scientist with a passion for extracting meaningful insights from complex datasets and building production-ready ML solutions. You thrive in dynamic environments where innovation, problem-solving, and continuous learning are essential. You're driven by the desire to translate business problems into data-driven solutions and have experience deploying models that deliver tangible value. You're ready to take ownership of your projects and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful data science solutions.

The Data Science Projects You'll Be Working On

We're on a mission to leverage our rich data assets to build intelligent features that enhance our platform's capabilities. Our goal is to develop and deploy data science solutions that provide actionable insights and automation opportunities. We're integrating large language models (LLMs) to solve complex business problems and drive innovation. Our tech stack includes:

• Programming Languages: Python, SQL


• Data Science & ML: Scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, Hugging Face transformers


• Data Visualization: Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, Tableau


• NLP & LLMs: Spacy, NLTK, integration with foundation models


• Data Processing: Pandas, NumPy, potentially Spark for larger datasets


• Cloud Services: Some familiarity with cloud services (AWS preferred but not required)


• Databases: PostgreSQL, experience with NoSQL databases is a plus

Technical Challenges You'll Solve

• Clean and transform messy, inconsistent datasets from multiple sources to create reliable data pipelines


• Develop robust methods to handle time series anomalies and inversion issues in shipping data


• Design and implement outlier detection and noise cancellation algorithms to improve data quality


• Identify complex patterns in customer behavior and shipping logistics through advanced statistical methods


• Detect emerging trends in shipping volumes, costs, and efficiency metrics across global markets

The Data Engineering Team

We’re a high-impact, fast-moving team focused on performance, scalability, and continuous improvement. We handle large-scale data processing and analytics, shipping regular updates and new features.

About You

• Education and Experience:
  
  - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, OR 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  
  - 2+ years of experience applying data science and machine learning techniques to real-world business problems and shipping data-driven products
  


• Technical Skills:
  
  - Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, visualization, and model development
  
  - Experience with ML frameworks and libraries like Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch
  
  - Solid understanding of statistical methods and their application
  
  - Experience with SQL and data manipulation in various database environments
  
  - Knowledge of data visualization techniques and tools
  


• Data Science Capabilities:
  
  - Proven track record of building and deploying ML models that solve business problems
  
  - Experience with the full data science lifecycle from problem formulation to model deployment
  
  - Strong skills in feature engineering, model selection, and hyperparameter tuning
  
  - Experience with NLP techniques and working with text data
  


• LLM Expertise:
  
  - Hands-on experience integrating or fine-tuning LLMs for specific applications
  
  - Understanding of prompt engineering and optimization techniques
  
  - Ability to evaluate and benchmark LLM performance for different use cases
  


• Soft Skills:
  
  - Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
  
  - Strong English communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  
  - A team player who thrives in collaboration and embraces challenges with enthusiasm
  
  - Self-directed with the ability to manage projects from conception to deployment

Nice to Have (but not required)

• Experience with AWS services like SageMaker, Bedrock, or Lambda


• Knowledge of data engineering principles and ETL processes


• Experience in a SaaS or B2B environment


• Background in shipping or logistics industry
