Job description

About Samsung Food

At Samsung Food, we’re trying to build a more sustainable future by inspiring home cooks everywhere to tackle holistic health through nutrition and reduce food waste. We’re a fully-owned, independently-operated Samsung subsidiary (acquired in 2019) primed to grow on top of Samsung’s global resources and hardware ecosystem. We are passionate about what we build and who we build for within one of the world’s largest corporations to bring our highly-rated native app experiences to tens of millions of TVs, wearables, and kitchen appliances in the years to come.

We’re a remote-first, globally distributed team of 100+ people based across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and everywhere in between. We’ve been fully distributed since 2016 and pioneered many of the practices which are commonplace in remote workplaces today.

Learn more about how we build a team who works together.

About the Role

We’re looking for a versatile and experienced Legal Operations Lead to join our lean, high-impact team. This person will be our main internal legal expert and will own legal workflows across the company — from contracts to data policy — in close partnership with our Head of Business Services and COO.

You'll be responsible for providing hands-on legal support where possible and coordinating with our outside counsel where needed. You’ll lead and improve the systems, processes, templates, and guidance that help our team move quickly and confidently while managing legal risk thoughtfully and proportionally.

This is an ideal role for a senior paralegal or legal operations professional who thrives in fast-paced, startup-style environments and brings a proactive, enabling approach to legal work.

What You’ll Do

  • Review and advise on a variety of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, consulting contracts, and NDAs.
  • Maintain and update product terms and policies (Terms of Service, Privacy, Cookie, etc.) in collaboration with product, data, and marketing teams.
  • Support compliance and data governance, especially for products handling sensitive user data (including health and wellness data).
  • Advise on basic employment matters, such as offer letters, termination templates, and contractor classification.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on complex issues, manage scopes, and ensure efficient use of external legal resources.
  • Educate and enable teams to identify legal risks early and submit complete, actionable legal requests.
  • Balance fast execution with smart risk management — helping us ship quickly while staying aligned with our obligations.
  • Own and streamline legal workflows, including request intake, document management, outside counsel coordination, and process improvements.

What You Bring

  • 6+ years of in-house legal experience, ideally in a fast-paced tech or consumer software environment.
  • Demonstrated success managing legal operations, contract review, and cross-functional legal workflows.
  • Strong familiarity with data privacy and user-facing legal policies.
  • Excellent judgment in identifying when to handle legal matters in-house vs escalate to counsel.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills — you’re a trusted partner to stakeholders, not a bottleneck.
  • Experience working across jurisdictions, US and/or UK in particular, or handling international considerations is a plus.
  • Not a JD, but deeply competent and confident navigating legal complexity.

What Success Looks Like

  • Teams feel supported and empowered, not slowed down by legal – you’re a trusted partner.
  • Legal workflows are visible, consistent, and scalable.
  • Our external legal spend is used wisely and strategically.
  • Product, data, and commercial work proceeds with thoughtful risk awareness.
  • You become a trusted counterpart to the Leadership Team — providing grounded, balanced legal guidance.

Culture Fit

We are a small, fast-moving team inside a larger organization — owned by Samsung but culturally distinct. We value autonomy, flexibility, and high accountability. You should thrive in a flat, collaborative environment, and be comfortable navigating the tension between startup pace and corporate dependencies.

This role is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys building from scratch, solving problems across functions, and shaping how legal works in a growing business.

Location

Fully Remote: Work from anywhere with flexibility, though overlap with GMT time-zones is ideal.

What We Offer

  • Contract-based, full-time role (minimum 30 hours/week, depending on workload) with a long-term commitment.
  • 100% remote work.
  • Join a supportive and dynamic team. In 2024, Samsung Food was recognized as a Most Loved Workplace® by the Best Practice Institute (BPI) for our outstanding team culture.
