Job description

This is a remote position.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the costs and resources required for plumbing projects, ensuring competitive bids while maintaining profitability. The role involves liaising with clients, suppliers and internal teams to develop comprehensive and precise project estimates aligned with Australian plumbing standards and regulations.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

  1. Estimating and Tendering

  • Analyse project specifications, drawings and tender documents to determine plumbing requirements.

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment and subcontractor services.

  • Develop and submit competitive tender packages within deadlines.

  • Review and refine estimates based on feedback or changes in project scope.

  • Technical and Compliance Review

    • Ensure estimates align with Australian Standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3500 series) and local plumbing codes.

    • Evaluate project risks, including environmental, technical and regulatory factors.

    • Liaise with engineers and architects to clarify project details and resolve discrepancies.

  • Supplier and Subcontractor Coordination

    • Source and negotiate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to achieve cost-effective solutions.

    • Maintain a database of preferred suppliers, subcontractors and historical costs.

    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure competitive pricing and reliability.

  • Project Handover and Support

    • Assist in the preparation of detailed project handover packages for construction teams.

    • Provide ongoing support to project managers to resolve cost-related queries or variations.

    • Participate in project kick-off meetings to communicate scope and cost expectations.

  • Administration and Reporting

    • Prepare detailed documentation and reports for internal and client use.

    • Track and review historical estimates for benchmarking and continuous improvement.

    • Keep up-to-date with market trends, material costs and new technologies in plumbing.



    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    1. Essential Qualifications

    • Certificate III or IV in Plumbing or equivalent trade qualification.

    • Relevant estimating or project management experience in the Australian plumbing industry.

    • Proficient in using estimating softwares (e.g., Groundplan, SimPRO, Bluebeam, or similar), Wunderbuild, Microsoft office word, excel etc.

    • Experience delivering projects from $2M to $6M Hydraulics at a senior level

    • 5-7 years experience

    1. Skills and Attributes

    • Strong understanding of plumbing systems, installation methods and material requirements.

    • High level of numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Proficient in reading and interpreting Australian construction plans and specifications.

    • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

    1. Project Desirable Qualifications

    • Experience in Australian commercial, residential, or industrial plumbing projects.

    • Familiarity with Australian workplace health and safety regulations.

    • Advanced Excel skills or experience with project management tools.
