Hamerkop Climate Impacts is seeking a Senior Consultant with deep forestry expertise to lead and deliver high-impact, nature-based climate solutions across Southeast Asia. If you are an experienced forester passionate about scaling carbon projects and influencing the region’s carbon market landscape, we want to hear from you.

Role Description - Responsibilities

This newly created consultant position will consist of growing and delivering a diverse range of stimulating technical and strategic consultancy assignments in relation to forestry, land use and management and biochar.

What you will do:

  • Lead technical delivery: oversee and deliver complex studies, analytics, and technical reports for forestry management, conservation, and restoration projects in Southeast Asia, focusing on the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
  • Carbon project leadership: guide the formulation, feasibility, and certification of emission reduction projects under major standards (such as Verra, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo, ERS), ensuring technical excellence and market integrity.
  • Strategic advisory: advise clients—including NGOs, private developers, and governments—on voluntary carbon markets, project structuring, and climate finance strategies aligned with evolving regional and international frameworks.
  • Business development: identify and pursue new project opportunities, build regional networks, draft high-quality technical and commercial proposals.
  • Stakeholder engagement: build and maintain trusted relationships with project teams, clients, government agencies, and partner organisations; represent HAMERKOP at regional forums and industry events.
  • Policy and market intelligence: monitor and interpret climate policy, carbon market trends, and relevant legislation in Southeast Asia; provide thought leadership and contribute to knowledge sharing.
  • Team leadership: mentor junior consultants, contribute to internal capacity building, and help shape HAMERKOP’s growing Southeast Asian practice.

Who you are

Required

  • MSc in forestry, environmental science, conservation, ecology, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5–10 years of professional experience in forestry, land management, or climate-related projects, with significant experience in Southeast Asia.
  • Strong understanding of voluntary and compliance carbon markets, including regional mechanisms and international standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills; attention to detail and a track record of delivering high-quality outputs.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, plus a second Southeast Asian language (Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese, Khmer, Tagalog, or Malay).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multicultural, distributed team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach and a commitment to mentoring others.

Desired

  • Demonstrated expertise in carbon project development, technical feasibility, and certification processes for nature-based solutions.
  • Prior consulting experience, including client and project management.
  • Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and/or private sector actors in Southeast Asia.
  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas emission accounting, climate finance, and GIS tools.

Term and location of the position

Permanent, full-time position based in your home country (Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, or Indonesia), with regional travel up to 10-20% of your time.
