Job Title: Development Officer

Reports To: Senior Director of Planned and Strategic Fundraising

Position Overview: The Development Officer serves as a strategic fundraiser primarily for the West Coast markets.  Responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining fundraising strategies and development activities with emphasis on identifying, stewarding, securing, and recognizing large donations and major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations interested in supporting the mission of the organization. Collaborate with colleagues to maximize gifts and revenue. 

Position responsibilities and duties:

• Build and improve strategies and communications, including renewals, special events, and mission updates, and serve as a development mentor and a professional resource.
• Makes recommendations to the Senior Director and PVA leadership regarding the overall strategies for donors and foundations.
• Collaborating with the Senior Director and others, create national action plans and schedules to implement approved strategies.
• Designs and implements a multi-year cultivation strategy to develop and sustain relationships with our Legacy Circle and other donors/prospects.
• Conducts high-level visits and calls to donors or prospects.  Identifies, cultivates, solicits, closes, and stewards gifts.
• Produces special donor interactions to increase donor/prospect affinity.
• Educates prospective donors on issues affecting paralyzed Veterans regarding PVA's programs, projects, and advocacy positions. Encourages prospective donors to provide unrestricted support for PVA.
• Records contemporaneous contacts in CRM for tracking Gift Planning activity. Report activity and results to the Senior Director.
• As directed by the Senior Director, it coordinates the activities of the Planned Giving Committee.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Director.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree.
• 7 or more years of experience in major gift fundraising and demonstrated success in closing gifts.
• CFRE designation or eligibility from the Association of Fund-Raising Professionals is required. 
• Excellent marketing, analytical, organizational, writing, and oral communications skills
• Ability to travel frequently
• A strong manager of people and resources.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Extensive experience with Blackbaud and/or other CRMs.
