About the Position

As a senior-level Electrical System Studies Engineer in the System Studies group, you will be responsible for performing electrical power system modeling and analysis primarily for renewable facilities that encompass support of the solar power generation and substation design teams. You will be providing the client with a quality deliverable that is on time and within budget while guiding other Team Members through the process.

 

Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 / year

The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.

 

This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Conducts electrical studies primarily for renewable facilities that encompass more of a system aspect in support of the solar and substation design teams
  • Creates and develops studies and reports including but not limited to short circuit, reactive power/load flow, arc flash, dynamic, transient, harmonic (pre & post), compliance, ampacity, grounding, as well as other related studies and calculations
  • Conduct review and QA/QC for electrical studies in support of design teams
  • Provide regulatory compliance services for al project design phases from conceptual design through project testing and commission
  • Establish study templates, methodologies, and best practices for electrical system studies
  • Serve as SME’s for study software related questions and troubleshooting
  • Secondary responsibilities may include checking and/or performing detailed design of all
    aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams,
    control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, conduit, and cable
    sizing/routing, grounding design, writing of equipment specifications, project and
    construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
  • Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including
    proposals cost estimates, and budget reports
  • Assists with Client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and
    meetings
  • May occasionally assist with performing equipment, control system, communications,
    troubleshooting, and relay field testing and start-up and commissioning services
  • Maintains a strong understanding and applications of applicable Codes and Standards
  • Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships
  • Maintains high ethical and professional standards
  • Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and
    graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of
    work.
  • Attends safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
  • Other job-related responsibilities as assigned
Must Have
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant engineering or field experience
  • Licensure: FE is required, PE is preferred
  • Proficiency with the following power system software:
    • PSS/e, PSCAD, Aspen, TARA and PSLF.
    • Experience with NERC TPL transmission planning studies
    • Ability to lead and mentor electrical engineers in performing power system steady state, short circuit, and dynamic & transient stability analyses.
    • Conduct complex and specialized electrical modeling and studies including interconnection models, system impact studies and analysis of microgrids.
    • Ensure timely completion of assigned projects while meeting all quality and budget objectives.
    • Ability to interact with clients and project teams to ensure technical aspects of projects are communicated and addressed.
    • Develop transmission planning study methodologies and relevant scenarios to ensure design criteria and system reliability requirements are met.
    • Lead process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency.
    • Support business development and expansion of services activities.
    • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Experience in the following power system design and modeling software:
    • Steady State software: (PowerFactory; ETAP; SKM Power Tools; Easypower; Aspen; Windmil)
    • System Protection & Arc Flash software: (CAPE, Aspen, ETAP; Power Factory; SKM Power Tools; Easy Power)
    • Grounding software: (CDEGS; WinIGS)
    • Cable Ampacity software: (Cymcap)  
    • Interconnection & Dynamic Modeling: (PSSe, PSLF) / Transient Studies software: (PSCAD) (design applications)

Work is performed in an office setting and some field work may be required
