Summary of Job Duties:
"This position is Part-time"
A Patient Care Technician in the Perinatal Service Line at UAMS plays a vital role in supporting both maternal and neonatal patient needs. You’ll assist with routine clinical procedures—like taking vital signs, monitoring fetal heart tones, collecting specimens, and performing intake and output measurements—under the guidance of nursing staff. You’ll help ensure patient comfort and safety through hygiene care, assisting with feeding, positioning, and mobility while remaining attentive to each patient's physical and emotional well‑being. You’ll also prepare rooms, stock supplies, and maintain strict cleanliness and infection‑control standards specific to perinatal care. Throughout your shift, accurate documentation and effective communication with nurses, physicians, and family members are essential for supporting quality patient outcomes and maintaining continuity of care.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Excellent communication skills, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

  • Successful completion of patient care technician course is required within 3 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an ambulatory care setting.​

  • Healthcare/Patient Care experience.

  • CPR Certified/Licensed.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Assists patients with direct patient care. Accepts direction from RN and team members and follows through on delegated patient care activities.

  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measure and assists patients with mobility-related activities. Accurately and promptly documents all patient care tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, and I & O's per unit and department standards.

  • Obtains patient report and communicates with RN regarding patient care. Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.

  • Carries out Plan of Care for patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach delegated by Team Leader.

  • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.

  • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.

  • Serves as a resource to support department member in performance of duties. Notifies appropriate staff of problems requiring prompt intervention.

  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.

  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
