Job description

The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is seeking Web Assistants to support the School in creating and managing content on websites for A&S faculty, departments, and programs. This position offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with web development, content management, and digital accessibility.

Responsibilities:

Content Migration & Web Development: Assist in migrating and organizing content for department and program sites using Drupal. Help build, update, and maintain websites using Drupal's content management system.

  • Web Accessibility: Work to ensure all A&S websites and digital properties are fully accessible to users with disabilities, adhering to best practices and accessibility standards.
  • Ambassador for Content Collection: Act as a liaison with departments and administrators to collect and post content on websites. Ensure content is up-to-date and organized across multiple sites.
  • Advanced Programming Opportunities: As your experience grows, you may have the opportunity to engage in more advanced programming tasks related to the development of web applications and features. This is not required.

Qualifications:

  • Current UVA student eligible for student employment
  • Technical Skills: Experience with content management systems (CMS), especially Drupal or WordPress, is preferred. Familiarity with HTML and CSS is essential. Experience with Photoshop is a plus.
  • Exceptional Writing Skills: Must be able to write and edit web content clearly and effectively for different audiences.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work with departments, faculty, and staff to ensure their web content needs are met.
  • Learning and Growth: This position provides opportunities for developing web programming and content management skills.

Work Location:

  • Primarily remote, with occasional meetings on the 5th floor of New Cabell Hall.

Anticipated start date is March 1, 2025, with the possibility to work over the summer and into next academic year upon performance review and availability.
 

Rate of pay is $15 per hour.
 

This position is open to all students eligible for student employment (undergraduate or graduate student).  This position is also open to student eligible for Federal Work Study.
